“The Woman I Am,” written by country music living legend, David Frizzell, hits radio airwaves this week. The song is the title cut from Patrick’s forthcoming debut album, produced by Frizzell. For decades, Nashville America Records has been the label home for Frizzell’s individual projects as well as the renowned Frizzell & Friends collaborations produced by the country music icon. Frizzell & Friends collaborations have included Merle Haggard, Crystal Gayle, Johnny Lee, Gene Watson, T. Graham Brown, Lacy J. Dalton, Jimmy Fortune (Statler Brothers), John Cowan (New Grass Revival), and many more top names.  Singer-songwriter Curtis Grimes has announced his first tour of the UK this June, with shows in London, Manchester & Scotland, and more dates to be announced. 17-year-old Singer-Songwriter and Multi-Instrumentalist, Nikki Lickstein, is best known for her sincere and fearless approach to music with lyrics that are paired with bright, infectious melodies. Though young, Nikki’s no stranger to the diligence it takes to be a musician. Discovered at age 15 by the Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), Bart Herbison, Nikki has spent the last two years writing under Herbison’s mentorship. As a member of both the Nashville Songwriters Association International and The Recording Academy, Nikki has regularly participated in many of the workshops, development and networking opportunities that these organizations have to offer. Over the course of his 50-year-plus career, one of Tom Rush’s defining gifts has been his ear for the faint voices of significant new songs by little-known writers. The New England-based singer-guitarist, a surviving giant of the early ’60s folk boom, was among the very first to record future standards by then-fledgling performers Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Jackson Browne on his 1968 album The Circle Game; he brought a later generation of singer-songwriters such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin to wider audiences as part of his tours. Taylor and country music superstar Garth Brooks have both named him as a major influence.
Until his new Voices CD (Appleseed Recordings, April 27, 2018), Rush has been heard only sparingly as a songwriter, with only a few tantalizing handfuls of originals – about 20 – spread out over eleven studio albums, most notably “No Regrets,” a classic of stoic farewell on that ’68 LP that later became a multi-genre chart hit in three cover versions. Voices is the first album ever of all-Rush originals, ten relaxed, warmhearted, amused and sometimes thoughtful songs that perfectly reflect Tom’s wry persona. (Harkening back to Rush’s early ’60s roots in Boston as a folk/blues interpreter are two traditional tracks, “Corina, Corina” and the opening “Elder Green,” included because “I didn’t want to compromise my folksinger credentials,” Tom explains in the liner notes.) He writes songs shorn of elaborate metaphors, preferring straightforward, evocative emotional settings. Having released the UK edition of the #1 debut album ‘The Project’ last Friday (March 9th) she performed no less than five sets across the festival, culminating in a main arena sloton Sunday, before headliners Emmylou Harris and Little Big Town took to the stage, and Ell closed the weekend with a late-night aftershow party set. March 16, 2018 (Press Release) -- From a source deep, abundant, and pure the river flows. It’s there on the map, marking place and time. Yet, the river changes as it remains a constant, carving away at the edges, making new pathways, gaining strength as it progresses forward. The Travelin’ McCourys are that river. On May 25th, the band will release their debut self-titled, self-produced album recorded at The Butcher Shoppe in Nashville. The Travelin’ McCourys is a mix of originals and well-fitting, road-perfected covers (two Grateful Dead tunes and John Hartford’s “Natural To Be Gone” for example); the song choices a recorded snapshot of the band’s live show. Today, Relix Magazine premieres the video for the first single “Borderline” recorded live at DelFest. Watch here. The McCoury brothers- Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo) - were born into the bluegrass tradition. Talk about a source abundant and pure: their father, Del, is among the most influential and successful musicians in the history of the genre. Years on the road with Dad in the Del McCoury Band honed their knife-edge chops, and encouraged the duo to imagine how traditional bluegrass could cut innovative pathways into 21st century music. With fiddler Jason Carter, bassist Alan Bartram, and latest recruit Cody Kilby on guitar, they assembled a group that could take what they had in their DNA, take what traditions they learned and heard, and push the music forward. In fact, the band became the only group to have each of its members recognized with an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for their instrument at least once. There were peers, too, that could see bluegrass as both historic and progressive. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Allman Brothers Band, improv-rock kings Phish, and jamband contemporary Keller Williams were just a few that formed a mutual admiration society with the ensemble. |
