-Tara Nashville recording artist and Colorado native Tyller Gummersall released his latest album, Long Ride Home, earlier this year. The traditional country project, produced by Lloyd Maines, was well received by fans and media alike and found Gummersall securing spots supporting artists from James Otto to Jim Lauderdale. Gummersall, who recently released his timely new single "Turned Around World," kindly took the time to talk about the song, reflect on a busy year and look at what's ahead. We last spoke prior to the release of Long Ride Home and it seems that you've definitely had a busy year. It's been a good few months for sure. The album was well received by radio, fans, and outlets like Cowboys & Indians and American Cowboy, which was really exciting. I had the opportunity to open for people like Cole Swindell, James Otto, and Jerrod Niemann. Because Cole's music is a little bit different from mine, I was curious to see how we would be received, but the crowds who came to see him also responded to my music. And it was cool to see that, at least as the fans are concerned, there is room for both types of music. On the other end of the spectrum, I recently had the opportunity to open for Jim Lauderdale, which was just an incredible experience. He's a legend and such a great guy - he was one of the only people who made a point of being present for my set and hang out afterward. He is an incredible songwriter and performer and really inspired me to raise my writing and performing game. "Turned Around World" is your current single. Is there a story behind that song?
The song is kind of timely with the crazy stuff going on in the country right now, but I wrote it after Merle had passed away. It's a nod to him and a nod to the more traditional sound as well as my own artistic expression of what it really means to make it. So far people like it and I'm excited for them to hear the next couple of songs as well. [Stream the song HERE] Are there plans for an upcoming EP or LP? I think so. I have three new songs that Lloyd and I worked on - with seven more waiting. I love the idea of making albums, but in this day and age everyone's attention span, for the most part, is shorter. So we are going to release three singles to keep the momentum going and then hopefully release an album sometime next year. What are your plans for the remainder of 2016? After I play the Big Sting [in Arizona], which Aaron Watson is headlining, I will head to Nashville where I will have some showcases and some shows at Two Old Hippies as well as a songwriter round with my friend Tony Arata ("The Dance"). We've been talking with promoters and pushing the song to Americana and smaller market country stations who have been pretty supportive of the music, and so far we have been able to get some traction on it which is exciting. We're still a small independent artist family, so we can only take it so far. Our main goal is to play the showcases and shows in Nashville, hopefully get industry folks there, and gain the support to take it to the next level. I'm proud of how hard we've worked and what we've accomplished, but I want my music to reach more people. I'm fortunate for the diverse opportunities I've had, and I'm looking forward to the exciting things that are coming and getting the music out. I'm busy and busy is good. Tour Dates:
