Seattle-based country newcomer Kassidy Lynne released her debut EP, Carolina Water in December of 2015. The EP features three songs Lynne wrote alongside Jordan Pruitt, including her current single "Carolina Water." Lynne kindly took the time to talk about her influences, balancing school and music and more. Many people your age, or older even, don’t know what they want to do with their lives. Being that you are only fifteen years old, when did you know you wanted to do music? From about the time I was nine, I fell in love with Hannah Montana. I grew up watching her television show and wanted to be her. Then I found Taylor Swift and she was everything I wanted to be. I knew that music was what I wanted to do and nothing was going to stop me. When did you being writing? I started writing with Jordan Pruitt about two years ago. She also is my vocal coach, helping me with much of the technical stuff. I am also trying to learn guitar; it’s very difficult but hopefully I’ll be good enough to play in front of people soon. I’m getting there! How do you balance school, activities, and music? It’s a lot of work, but I get through it. I’m currently in the ninth grade at the local public school, and I also have voice lessons twice a week in the morning, drivers ed, volleyball and homework to balance. I figure it all out though, I got it down. You must have an incredibly supportive family?
My family is very supportive. I know that I wouldn’t be able to do anything without them. My mom, who is my manager right now, is just incredible. When I recorded the EP she and my sister came to Nashville with me and my Dad came out when I shot the video. You released your first EP, Carolina Water, in December. Did you write all three of the songs? I co-wrote all three with Jordan Pruitt. The second song, "Bloom," was the one I liked the best, but when we played back the songs on the last day, “Carolina Water” just blew everyone away which is why we ended up titling the EP that. Is there a story behind that song? The story is just so me, and is basically about every teenage girl’s dream summer. It’s about a girl who is dreaming of the summer she spent with the best guy ever. They would spend time by the water and he’d sing to her, which I wish a guy would do for me, but eventually summer ended and they went their separate ways and she just spends time reminiscing about the time they spent together. Speaking of summer, what are your plans for the coming months? “Carolina Water” is playing on some stations in the US, and although it’s not in my hometown yet, we're working on it there. My guitar player and I will be playing locally and then in July I am going to Orlando to Premiere and where I got started in 2012. It’s where I got my start and this time I will be going back as a mentor to other kids. I will also get to perform in front of the kids there, which will be a lot of fun. I’ll also be writing a lot and hopefully, I’ll get another album out soon. For more information visit her official website Find her on Facebook and Twitter Purchase Carolina Water here
