Nashville via New Jersey singer Kayla Calabrese recently released her new single, “Me Time,” from her 2016 album Glass Stiletto. The anthemic single talks about the importance of making time for oneself, something that the busy Calabrese knows a lot about – she continues to work as an emergency room nurse while pursuing her dreams in Music City. In advance of performing at CMA Fest, Calabrese took some time to talk about the single and how she makes “me time” for herself. Your new single “Me Time” is a really anthemic song. Did you write it? I did not write, Frank Myers and Steve Dorff, who are two incredible writers, penned the song. Jimmy Nichols, who produced Glass Stiletto brought me to a room where I was pitched songs and “Me Time” was one of them. When I heard it, I knew I had to record it. I think it’s the perfect summer anthem and I feel super blessed to not only record it, but release it as a single as well. How did you make the song your own? Before we recorded it, Jimmy and I went to a room with a piano in the Nashville Musician’s Union. We decided which key we wanted to do the song in, which made it different than the demo, and then we further put a flair on it when we got in the studio. It’s really cool to hear a song go from a demo to being on my record. As an artist and a nurse, how do you make “me time” for yourself? About three weeks ago I went on a cruise with my mom and I got to relax, lie on the beach, and read a book – it was the epitome of "me time." I also love the outdoors, hiking, and working out at the gym – that’s when I have my time. Being that you’re incredibly busy, do you get to play out live often? I try to do it as often as I can, but with nursing, I don’t have a set schedule, so I cannot say every Wednesday I will play a writer’s round, but if something comes up I make sure to do it. I did some things at CRS this year and I will play at CMA Fest in June. I played there last year, but I am really excited to play in a few weeks, especially with “Me Time” as my current single – it should be a great sing along. Finally, now that the carefree days of Summer are finally upon us, do you have a current guilty pleasure song you can share? I feel like my guilty pleasure song changes every other day! I love lyrically great songs and Mallary Hope’s new song, “Now,” is my current favorite. I also just got introduced to Steve Moakler who has this song called “This Ain’t Rock and Roll” about growing up in the North and singing country songs which hits home for me. Calabrese will be performing at CMA Fest Thursday, June 8th from 2-245pm at The Stillery She will also be signing autographs inside Fan Fair X of The Music City Center Sunday, June 11th from 2-3pm For more information visit her official website Find her on Facebook and Twitter Purchase "Me Time" HERE
