Austin Guitar Slinger JOHNNY “CHOPS” RICHARDSON Premieres “TEN CENT TALKERS” Video via No Depression

Austin, TX: Hot on the heels of a Southwest tour announcement running July 26 thru August 16, guitar-slinging, singer-songwriter Johnny “Chops’ Richardson has premiered his no-holds-barred video “Ten Cent Talkers,” via Americana tastemaker No Depression. Taking a tongue-in-cheek look at “talking heads” on the set of a fictitious network called "BS News," the action mockingly shows the false fronts of those presenting themselves as credible sources of information and leadership. Chops, himself, only makes a cameo in the clip as a TV producer. He recalls the impetus for writing the pointed track, “I wrote it during the election process of 2016 and got into a bad habit of reading the news during breakfast before writing. It just seemed like a bunch of hot air going on every day. Lots of finger pointing and name calling and gums flapping and no actual DOING."

“Ten Cent Talkers” is the third single from his recently released sophomore album, Johnny Chops & The Razors, which The Rock Father christened, “Powerful, lyrically and musically” while Glide Magazine called it, "Bluesy, southern boogie exuding just the right amount of soul and roots rocker energy.” With inspiration from Tom Petty, Muddy Waters, Johnny Cash, and Social Distortion, the 11-track opus was co-produced by Reckless Kelly guitarist David Abeyta, who helped Chops establish a signature sound, an eclectic mix of bluesy southern boogie, vintage tones, southern soul, and pure rock ’n’ roll.

“The Razors” refer to his all-star studio crew which includes Reckless Kelly co-vocalist Cody Braun, Eric “Ebo” Borash (John Fogerty, Radney Foster, Jack Ingram), Aden Bubeck (touring bassist for Miranda Lambert), The Gospel Starz, and rising star Brandy Zdan, who duets on a cover of the Willie Dixon classic, “I Just Want To Make Love To You.” During the course of the 11-track trek, Richardson guides the listener on an expansive journey of geography and history. From the foot-stomping Louisiana grit of “Believer,” to the Southern muscle of “Medicine,” from the soulful Memphis swing of “Tombstone Flowers,” and “Taking a Chance on Me,” to the bluesy Texas twang of “Ten Cent Talkers,” and “Gimme Sugar,” to the Motown boogie-woogie of “Rock Bottom, to the Crossroads-inducing, gut-check of the blistering 7-minute “Only When You’re Breathing,” Chops and The Razors aptly strut their stuff.

On the road 100-150 dates per year, playing solo shows and touring throughout the country with Randy Rogers Band, with whom he’s played bass since 2002, Richardson is set to embark on the first official tour for the new album. Kicking off with a hometown show at the world famous Antone’s, with special guest Micky and the Motorcars, the TEN CENT TOUR will head west along Interstate 10, with a string of gigs in West Texas, Arizona, and Southern California before looping back East. The tour wraps up in Amarillo, TX, with an opening slot for Grammy-winning Southern country rockers, The Kentucky Headhunters.
