HOBOKEN, N.J. (Press Release) — When members of alternative heavyweights Winter Hours, The Feelies, Luna, and the Bongos began quietly playing together in the mid-2000s, their fans anticipated something special. The problem? There wasn’t an easy way to hear it — until now.

Memory Box, due out April 15, 2016 on Omnivore Recordings, is the debut album from supergroupEast of Venus, which comprised Michael Carlucci (Winter Hours), Glenn Mercer (The Feelies, Wake Ooloo), Stan Demeski (The Feelies, Luna) andRob Norris (The Bongos). The music encompasses the feeling and passion from all of those bands, but is truly East of Venus’s own.

The set, featuring original material as well as covers of Red Buckets’ “Jane September,” Tim Hardin’s “Reason to Believe,” and “Citadel” from the Rolling Stones, is both reverential and forward thinking, and is simply out of this world. It is the album fans of the group members’ past have been waiting for, but it’s also destined for a new audience.

Available on CD, digital and clear vinyl for the first pressing (with download card), Memory Boxreflects Michael’s influences, which were communally shared in the Hoboken music scene of that era (i.e., Lou Reed, Rolling Stones, Faces, Doors, early Rod Stewart, Dylan, Patti Smith, Television, Gene Clark, and even Fairport Convention). The track “Faded Pictures” actually began life in 1990 as a Winter Hours song and was performed live by the band for a couple of months just prior to their break up. It’s a great, lost song that they never got to professionally record (although note that an East of Venus version was added to a various artists Winter Hours tribute CDA Few Uneven Rhymes from several years ago).

Sadly, the Michael Carlucci passed away unexpectedly at the end of 2015, and the band has dedicated this release to his memory: “His spirit will forever live on through the music he created.”

As you travel through the alternative universe, remember your first stop should be East of Venus.
