![]() (Austin, Texas) -- Nick Sterling, a singer-songwriter and Purple Heart Veteran based in Central Texas is releasing his debut single,"Blood In The Water," to radio today. From the EP STAND YOUR GROUND, scheduled for release Friday, February 23, 2018, "Blood In The Water" introduces Sterling's soulful vocals as well as his mission to raise money for Lone Survivor Foundation. David Gilligan of Gilligan Promotions is heading up promotion efforts as the single begins going for adds. Written about Sterling's experiences during periods of deployment, the song is told from the perspective of the men he sat watching "scratch, claw and grasp with every fiber of their being to hold relationships together with just one phone call every few weeks." Dominated by the fiddle, and accented with dobro, mandolin, stand up bass and a percussion beat that gets your toe tapping, the story Sterling delivers about relationships falling apart during the war is told with strong vocals, and a stream of back-up female vocals that makes you feel like you are in a choir. "I wrote this song thinking about the silence that happens when you're on a phone call from miles away with your significant other and all there is is listening to each other breathe, not knowing what to say or how to express yourself, knowing it is falling apart but not knowing how to prevent it."
By bringing the heart and soul of a combat veteran to the Texas Music Scene, Sterling hopes to strike a chord with listeners and chose "Blood in the Water" as his first release knowing that everyone has experienced such bewilderment, loss and pain. With an Americana/ Roots sound that diversifies the Texas Country music scene, Sterling has played Texas Frog Fest 2016 and 2017 and has been singing his way through such notable Texas venues as Cheatham Street Warehouse, River Road Icehouse, Firehouse Saloon and O'briens Irish Pub. Adding to this impressive roster, he is slated to perform an upcoming CD Release concert at Main Street Crossing. Sharing the stage alongside Zane Williams, John Baumann, Charlie Robison, Jerrett Zoch and the OSR Band, and Bag of Donuts, he has also had the distinct honor of being a semi-finalist at both the 2017 Larry Joe Taylor Songwriting Competition and the 2017 Chilifest Battle of the Bands competition. STAND YOUR GROUND was recorded at yellow DOG Studios with producer Dave Percefull. As part of a greater effort, Sterling makes good on a promise to use his music to continue serving his country country by donating all of the proceeds to Lone Survivor Foundation.
