SONG PREMIERE: The Tillers Look for Hope on "Revolution Row"

1/22/2018

In the beginning Mike Oberst (banjo, vocals), Sean Geil (vocals, guitar), and Jason Soudrette (upright bass) busked for coins and burritos around Cincinnati, playing traditional songs - Woody Guthrie, southern blues laments, anonymous relics of Appalachian woods, churches, riverboats, railroads, prairies, and coal mines. Awarded a Cincinnati Entertainment Award from City Beat Magazine six times, the band caught wider attention nationally when they were featured by news anchor Tom Brokaw in his documentary about the historic Route 50.

Eventually, Soundrette left to pursue other passions and handed over the bass reins to Sean’s brother, Aaron Geil and the band soon added Joe Macheret on fiddle. Tragedy struck a few years later when Soudrette passed after a long fight with AML. The band has continued on in Jason’s name, launching new tours, writing new songs, and raising new offspring. On March 23rd, the quartet will release their self-titled album, and today share one of the tracks from the project, "Revolution Row," a fiery socially conscious bluegrass-folk tune that looks for hope in troubled times.

Singer-songwriter-guitarist Sean Geil had this to relate about the track,
"'Revolution Row' was inspired by all the people standing up and speaking out against the evils and injustices in the world. When I started writing it I was angry. By the end of the song I had worked through a lot of that anger and wound up in a more hopeful place. Things are messed up right now, and we have to work together to turn it around."

"Gather round, hear the restless moan
There’s better days just up a ways
I can feel it in my bones
Make a sound, give that horn a blow
I’m bound for the Revolution row"

(Nashville, Tenn. – January 19, 2018 Press Release) – Country music singer-songwriter,Sandra Lynn released a new EP, titled FIGHT, today on iTunes, Spotify,GooglePlay, and Amazon. The new release is Chapter One of a three-part series, to be released throughout 2018, and features four new tracks, including “Fight,” “Rest In Pieces,” the EP focus track “Somebody Kissed Me At A Bar,” and “From The Outside.”

FIGHT is a testament to how Lynn has grown as an artist as she reveals deeply felt emotions and puts them into the music. “These songs touch on the vulnerable and intimate details we ladies like to talk about behind closed doors with one another,” she says of FIGHT, which features contributions from hit songwriters such as Rachel Proctor, Shane Stevens, Matthew West, and Melissa Pierce, including her collaboration with Jake Scott (“From The Outside”). “The songs convey the push and pull in relationships, which take work; sometimes they work out and sometimes they don’t. I want listeners to feel that friction, but to also come away with a hopeful feeling that what’s meant to be will always work itself out. Fight for what you love, work for what you want, and don’t take relationships for granted.”

2018 marks the 60th anniversary of these recordings made for Simone’s landmark debut album Little Girl Blue.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Press Release) -- Nina Simone was only 25 years old in 1958 when she entered Beltone Studios in midtown Manhattan for a one-day recording session for her debut album, Little Girl Blue,on Bethlehem Records. The 14 songs she recorded that day reveal just how well developed Simone’s sound — her powerhouse vocals, her classically-trained piano-playing, her inventive, genre-blind arrangements, and her dynamic personality — already was. Bethlehem, a small and financially faltering jazz label, picked 11 tracks for Little Girl Blue. This unheralded debut yielded Simone’s biggest hit, a cover of the Gershwins’ “Porgy (I Loves You, Porgy),” as well as her last one, “My Baby Just Cares for Me,” which charted in 1987 after being used in a TV commercial.

By the time “Porgy (I Loves You, Porgy)” was moving up the charts, Simone had moved on to larger and financially stronger Colpix Records. Wanting to capitalize on Simone’s hit, Bethlehem made the most of their Simone material. On Nina Simone and Her Friends, they placed “Porgy’ and the three songs left off of Little Girl Lost (“He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” “African Mailman,” and “For All We Know”) with songs by her label-mates Chris Connor and Carmen McRae. Between 1959-62, Bethlehem also put out six singles utilizing all of their Simone tracks. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of these recordings, BMG/Bethlehem now has compiled these singles together as Mood Indigo: The Complete Bethlehem Singles, due out on February 9, 2019.

Winner of the 2017 Ameripolitan Music Award for Best Female Rockabilly Artist, and named the “Best Up-And-Coming Band” by Hudson Valley Magazine, Lara Hope and the Ark-Tones are New York’s premier roots rock n’ roll, rockabilly, rhythm & blues outfit. Today, Hope and her talented band share the video for "Callin' My Name," a swinging ode to the call of the road that features a performance from the band as well as video sharing life on tour.

Describing their sound, Hope explained to Rockabilly Online “I would say we are a new take on an old sound. It’s been described as ‘pan-americana’ which means we use many areas of early rock and roots music as a creative launchpad. Where it goes from there is anyone’s guess, because while we appreciate old music, we don’t want to write songs that have already been written.”

The Ark-Tones are prepping to hit the road to support their second full-length album, Love You to Life. For tour dates and more information head HERE

January 19, 2018 (Partial Press Release) - Nashville-based Americana outfit Great Peacock has announced the Mar. 30 release of their new LP, Gran Pavo Real, which was recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium by industry stalwart Dexter Green and features My Morning Jacket’s Tom Blankenship. The band has shared the album's first single, "One Way Ticket," at No Depression, who say, "Nelson’s hypnotic vocals which tell the story of a free soul who’s reminiscing and finding his path."

Spitting stories of love, loss and pain, Nashville’s Great Peacock⎯⎯ comprised of lead singer and guitarist Andrew Nelson, guitarist Blount Floyd, drummer Nick Recio and bass player Frank Keith IV ⎯⎯ challenge the very notion of genre, dismantling tradition and blurring the lines between rock ‘n roll, conventional folk music and true Americana. As fixtures in the Southern festival circuit including Shakey Knees, they’ve shared stages with an abundance of equally-minded noise-makers, including Colter Wall, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Cage the Elephant, American Aquarium, Margo Price and Jonathan Tyler.
