![]() Watch the music video for “Until We Both Get Bored” via YouTube Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Zander Hawley is thrilled to be heading out on tour with beloved synth-pop vets The Naked And Famous, who will be playing uniquely stripped-down sets, next month. He’ll join them for dates in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Boulder, and Aspen, Colorado, as well as multiple nights in LA, making for a string of special hometown shows, culminating at The Moroccan Lounge on Saturday, March 24th. This is not the first time The Naked And Famous have shown support for Hawley’s music; in an interview last year, when asked to list their favorite acoustic acts, they quickly name-checked “Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Zander Hawley.” Last May, Hawley released his debut record, When I Get Blue, produced by Marshall Vore (drummer for Ryan Adams and Phoebe Bridgers) and featuring Bridgers’ stunning vocals on five of the album’s ten tracks. He’s excited to bring songs both old and new on tour for these dates, all of which are listed below. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Hawley began falling in love with the musical landscape that surrounded the city he calls home when he was about 16. In befriending and coming of age alongside other LA-based musicians like Phoebe Bridgers and Harrison Whitford, he wound up at the center of the city’s youthful singer/songwriter scene. He began his recording career with Honeywater, his duo with friend/actor/activist Amandla Stenberg. In the summer of 2015, the band’s eponymous debut EP reached #7 on the iTunes Folk chart. Later that year, Hawley released his first solo EP, I Wish I Was, and temporarily moved to Nashville, where he began writing the songs that would come to make up When I Get Blue. Produced by close friend Marshall Vore (drums for Ryan Adams and Phoebe Bridgers, production for Korey Dane) and recorded in the near-impossible span of two days at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios, When I Get Blue offers listeners a stunning amount of intimacy, giving them a firsthand look into what it’s like to fall in love and find your place in the world, with varying degrees of success in both ventures. But When I Get Blue is bigger than the sorrow that the color implies. “As abstract as it sounds,” Hawley states, “‘Blue’ is a state of mind for me.” When I Get Blue is not just an impressive debut from a young singer/songwriter; it’s an alt-country triumph tied together by the striking truths that are all-too-often best revealed to us by younger generations. Zander Hawley is only 20 years old and has, thank god, a lot to say.
