Nashville-based Kellen of Troy (aka Kellen Wenrich) has officially released his debut LP, Posthumous Release. Early in his youth Wenrich realized he didn't have the physicality for sports. He decided music was just as good as baseball and took up violin in school. The instrument became his constant companion. He became a member of nationally successful band Apache Relay. It was through the dissolving of the band and some personal break-ups that he began formulating the material for his own band Kellen Of Troy.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Press Release) — There has never been a box set quite like Battleground Korea: Songs and Sounds of America’s Forgotten War, due out in the U.S. on March 23, 2018. The award-winning folks at Bear Family Records have assembled an impressive four-CD anthology that is part ’50s American soundtrack and part historical document, representing the most comprehensive examination ever assembled of songs inspired by the Korean War. While the music of the World War II and Vietnam War eras garnered a lot of attention, far less is known about the sounds of the Korea War period, even though it stands as a significant time in American society, from the post-WWII boom years to dawning of the ’60s. The 121 tracks on these four discs incorporate a full range of American styles — country, blues, pop, folk, bluegrass, and gospel — and features big-time acts covering all of these genres. The selections include country stars like Ernest Tubb, Gene Autry, Jean Shepherd, Tex Ritter, Red Foley, and Merle Travis as well as blues legends John Lee Hooker, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Big Boy Crudup, andJimmy Witherspoon. Los Angeles-based artist Elijah Ocean is a songwriter’s songwriter. Channeling the ghosts of Laurel Canyon as well as the Hudson Valley, his sensibilities for folklore and his ear for a hook are on full display with his latest single, “Down This Road.” Ocean penned the first verse on his couch after moving to Los Angeles in 2014, and it stopped there for a while. After multiple revisions and mental blocks over the next three years, the song was finished in November 2017 in a Las Vegas hotel room, where longtime friend and keyboardist Zach Jones helped bring it to life. Nashville duo Whiskey Wolves of the West - Tim Jones (vocals, guitar) and Leroy Powell (vocals, guitar, bass, pedal steel, clavinet, keys, harmonica) - is set to unleash its debut album, Country Roots, on March 2. A sonic fusion of country, roots, rock, and blues Country Roots is a seven-track collection of genre-defying tunes that flow loosely over a base of solid, accessible songwriting. Fully living up to its name, the album includes the analog-lovin' tone of “Lay That Needle Down,” the modernized down-home spirit of the title track, and the bright vibe of the album’s closer, “#1 (The Ballad of Dallas Davidson).” Today, TDC is incredibly honored and excited to bring you another of the album's cuts, "Sound of the South," which Powell says, “tries to cover the history of rock and roll in 2-3 minutes or less.” Led by a retro-soul instrumental introduction, "Sound of the South" is supported by Michael Webb's subtly dynanic organ-work and dominated by the duo's powerful and passionate vocals which pay respectful homage to the musical legends, and people, of the South. It came about after a four-hour Bub City gig, a wintry Chicago evening, and a black-out drunk. If it wasn't for iPhone voice memo, this would’ve turned out to be a hymn. Tim and I were so surprised that the song turned out as good as it did when we listened back the next morning. This song and "Drifting On" actually became the impetus to go into the studio for the first time. We felt like we had something worth laying down. Sometimes magic can be captured immediately in the studio. What was the recording process for “Sound of the South” like? Tim’s friend Bill Reynolds has a beautiful studio in Nashville off of Charlotte Pike called Fleetwood Shacks. We booked out the room for the afternoon and invited some friends over. "Sound of the South" was a blast to record. My bro Chris on drums. Willie Weeks on bass. Tom Bukovac and me on guitars. Michael Webb on organ. Tim and I sang it down in two takes. (Press Release) Born and raised in the small town of Pound, VA, Kaitlyn Baker rises from the depths of the coal mines where her family has worked for generations and where the coal dust covers more than just the birds in a veneer of black. Baker has always known that singing would carry her far beyond the Appalachian peaks that she calls home. Referred to as a modern day “coal miner’s daughter,” her pure country voice rings true and her songwriting rivals Nashville’s finest. Like many country artists, Baker got her start by singing in church, but she also began to perform professionally, as a young girl, at events in her small hometown and surrounding area. By the time she was 14, she had recorded three self-produced albums, which were sold at live performances. Though she is a country artist, she is steeped in musical influences spanning beyond. Baker’s debut single “Burn” charted on Music Row’s Breakout Chart in 2015 and inspired the creation of Kaitlyn Baker’s BURN Sauce, a hot sauce produced by Pepper Palace in Sevierville, Tennessee. Her follow-up singles “Coal Train” and “To Pieces” garnered national attention on music industry charts and media outlets. In 2016 her self-penned “Heart of Appalachia” song was adopted as the official theme song of the Heart of Appalachia Tourism Authority, a nonprofit organization that promotes tourism. |
