Austin-based trio Greyhounds has announced the upcoming release of their new LP Cheyenne Valley Drive on April 6th. They've also shared the first single from the record, "No Other Woman", a swirling dose of driving bluesy rock, which you can stream above.
Greyhounds are the Austin trio of Anthony Farrell (vocals, keyboards), Andrew Trube (vocals and guitar) and Ed Miles (drums). Many music fans remember Farrell and Trube as key members of JJ Grey's band MOFRO for many years. After parting with Grey in 2016 to focus full-time on Greyhounds, the band has only left the road to record and release two full-length records. The seeds of Cheyenne Valley Drive were planted in 2016 when Greyhounds met acclaimed engineer and Memphis native Matt Ross-Spang. Soon afterwards, Matt moved his operation to the newly refurbished Sam Phillips Recording studio. Greyhounds had always wanted to record in the historic studio, considering it the perfect place to make the type of album they wanted: a less produced, more spontaneous style of recording, all straight to tape like many of the classic records that were made there in its heyday. And Ross-Spang was the perfect engineer, steeped in the old-school style of making records. ![]() (Press Release) Amid her current single Morganclimbing the charts, country artist Julia Capogrossi has just been named the official spokesperson for Global Children’s Rescue (GCR), a non-profit that works to put a stop to human trafficking. In working with them, she hopes to bring more awareness to this issue, as well as bringing awareness and support in their pursuit of ending human trafficking in our local communities. ![]() February 16th, 2018 - Outlaw country revivalist Craig Gerdes has released his highly-anticipated LP Smokin' Drinkin' & Gamblin'. Gerdes celebrated the release with a performance at the legendary Nashville Palace as well as several live sessions via WSMV's Today In Nashville, ACME's Vinyl Lunch & RFD-TV. Gerdes has also been featured at Guitar World, The Boot, Glide Magazine & many more. Smokin' Drinkin' & Gamblin' is out now via Sol Records. Craig Gerdes is a singer whose voice is steadied by the legion of angels he believes watch over him. He tells stories at a Southern pace, with a soft voice and slow drawl. His new album Smokin' Drinkin' and Gamblin' is full of outlaw-country rug cutters and ballads about strong heads and weak hearts. Fueled by nostalgia, his songwriting talent turns old habits into dependable crutches nursing the phantom pain of distant love. Though he hails from rural Illinois, his sound is old-school, four-to-the-floor, Texas-style honky tonk, reminiscent of greats like Waylon Jennings, Leon Payne, George Strait, Jim Lauderdale and James McMurtry. As great songwriters often do, he spent time as a writer in Nashville, where he had some success, and learned that his songs were too country for the cosmopolitan elite. "Redneck Sonsabitches" eloquently details the story of his Nashville experience, one that put him in front of great outlaw songwriter Billie Joe Shaver. Shaver laughed with him about the difficult road honest songwriters sometimes face on Music Row, and asked him if he'd ever been to Texas. Another man of faith, Shaver ensured Gerdes they'd meet again, and three years later Gerdes opened a show for him outside La Grange. The song he penned about it is a swaggerin' chicken-pickin' electric two stepper. The band careens through a tempo change where he namechecks Shaver, who told him "Son, I know just how you feel," before he remembers what record companies remarked about his work—"You long haired redneck sonsabitches are not wanted here in Nashville, Tennessee." |
