Boston, MA-based fuzz-Country/Americana songstress Hayley Thompson-King will release her new album, Psychotic Melancholia, on September 1. Thompson-King cryptically refers to her debut solo album as a “Sodom and Gomorrah concept album” influenced by her childhood obsession with the so-called wicked women in the Bible. As metal as that sounds, these are in fact the basic ingredients for a rich, psych-tinged garage-country record.
Opening track “Large Hall, Slow Decay,” is a blazing country ripper directed at a former bandmate with whom Thompson-King had a harsh break-up. The title also references the reverb effect that reminds her of this time in her musical life. Listen to the track below and for more information visitHERE. Psychotic Melancholia is out September 1 on Hard To Kill Records.

Karen & the Sorrows are back with a new full-length album, The Narrow Place (due August 25th). Like any roots band, The Sorrows sing about heartbreak and loss - they just take the back roads less traveled to get there.
The Sorrows’ sound centers around singer-songwriter Karen Pittelman’s high, lilting vocals and Elana Redfield’s lonesome pedal steel guitar mixed with the dark twang and steady beat of the 1970s country-rock the band grew up on. Pittelman, Redfield, and drummer Tami Johnson formed the Brooklyn-based band in 2011. In 2012 they released the EP Ocean Born Mary about a ghost story from Redfield’s New Hampshire hometown. In 2014, they put out their first full-length record, The Names of Things, which was voted one of the Freeform American Roots Chart’s best debut albums of the year. A constant fixture in New York’s clubs and bars, the Sorrows have continued to build a strong local following as well as touring throughout the east coast from New England to New Orleans. The Sorrows are also at the center of a growing queer country scene, creating a community for people who love country music even if country music doesn’t always love them back. For the last six years, they’ve run Brooklyn’s Gay Ole Opry Festival and the Queer Country Quarterly. “Now more than ever, we are grateful to be in community with so many amazing musicians,” Pittelman says. “Country music can tell compelling stories about family, love, heartbreak, and strength. Those stories should include all of our families, all of our love, and especially all of our heartbreak and our strength.” Listen to "Do It For Myself," a stripped-down, stirring ballad about lost love that is led by Pittelman's wistful vocals, swells of twangy pedal steel, and hushed percussion below.

Introducing Moxi, a Los Angeles based indie pop outfit built upon the dreamy, ethereal vocals of Anna Toy and surrounded by the moody, atmospheric keyboards of Andy Toy. Drawing on elements from pop, classic cinema, and 80's new wave, Moxi presents Anna's distinct vocals against a backdrop of dark electronic textures, innovative guitar sonics, and enigmatic, dream pop melodies. Moxi’s upcoming EP Figures Bathed in Light is produced by Emmy Award-winning songwriter Bobby Hartry and mixed by Bryan Cook (Radiohead, Beck). The six-song release is the result of a writing retreat to a cabin in the desolate mountains of Big Bear. This weekend of escapism was the catalyst for all creativity on the record. The duo's isolation during this time forced them to confront life altering experiences they faced fueling an EP filled with spiritual reflection, conquering life's demons and facing the dark as well as the light. Title track “Figures Bathed in Light” was conceived after the couple escaped a near-fatal car crash. This life threatening experience empowered them with a wealth of creative energy and the need to create art to immortalize the new found hope they had following this encounter. Anna explains, "our inspiration comes from a myriad of sources and ideas, but the underlying themes come from our emotional response to art and life experience”. The track highlights the band's dreamy, floating quality of music and fascination with the supernatural. "Behind all the drifting soundscapes, I always build a violence and tension into the music, even if it’s not overtly present at first”, admits Andy. “We bring all of these elements together in a way that is hopefully relatable and memorable because ultimately, we want people to feel understood through our music.” Listen below and for more information, visit the official website: http://moxilovesyou.com
If you’re listening to a record by Margo Price, Andrew Combs, or Anderson East, you've no doubt heard Erin Rae. Listen to her latest, the delicate and understated, yet incredibly moving, "Wild Blue Wind" below.
