Twenty-three year-old Toronto born, Los Angeles based artist Jessie Munro has been mesmerizing audiences worldwide, with her stunning soulful vocals and sleek, modern-electro R&B/pop. Finding her start in classical music and musical theatre, Munro went on to attend the Berklee College of Music, propelling her songwriting abilities and giving her the musical maturity which is evident throughout her music. The soulful songstress is now preparing to release her Debut EP On My Own, a six-track release which tackles the stages of post break-up.
On My Own tells the story of living through bleak heartbreak, with relatable honest lyricism and beautifully poetic melodies, it’s an EP of reflection and contemplation. Narrating the feeling of being alone, the pain of unrequited love and finding courage and confidence to move on, the release is an authentic story of a lost love. Influenced by artists such as Carole King, Daniel Caesar and Charlotte Day Wilson, Munro describes “we were trying to harness old school classic sounds and marry them with modern sounds”. Leading single 'Under Fire’ features a strong, melodic bassline which rides fluidly atop the driving drums and Munro’s soulful, dreamlike vocals. Thematically, the song focuses on the pressures of social expectations and constantly feeling scrutinized by others. Munro reflects on how she felt she was “under fire” from everyone in her life and the song is the realization that other peoples opinions aren’t always definitive. Inspired by Lianne La Havas and her technique of fusing lyrics with melody, Munro explains “the intent of the lyric is brought to life with a melody that evokes that same emotion” and this is clearly apparent throughout the single. Cinematic Southern Gothic alt-rockers Curse Of Lono are prepping the release of their new album, AS I FELL (August 17th). About Curse of Lono: Formed in London in 2015, Curse Of Lono is Felix Bechtolsheimer (vocals and guitar), Joe Hazell (lead guitar and vocals), Dani Ruiz Hernandez (keys and vocals), Charis Anderson (bass and vocals) and Neil Findlay (drums). ‘As I Fell’ is the follow-up to ‘Severed’, one of the most critically acclaimed debuts of 2017, and builds on Curse Of Lono’s deeply cinematic blend of harmony-laden Americana and driving, gothic alt-rock.
On September 7th, Nashville indie rockers, Future Thieves will be releasing their latest self-titled album. In advance of the upcoming project, the quartet debuted a new track, “Dark Spin,” a dreamy synth-pop track that deals with emerging from a personally dark period and figuring out what's next.
The lengthy process behind the Future Thieves’ new release is a far cry from their most recent record, a live-in-the-studio album captured entirely in an hour. Comprised largely of material from the band’s critically acclaimed 2015 debut, ‘Horizon Line,’ ‘Live at Blue Rock’ garnered praise everywhere from Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco to Guitar World, which hailed it as a “collection of turbo-charged Americana tunes.” Relix similarly raved that the album “captures the quartet’s spirit and intensity,” while The Tennessean simply lauded the band as “incredible.” They followed it up in 2017 with “Sucker,” an infectious single that earned love from Billboard, who highlighted the band’s newfound “infusion of…electro-pop grooves,” and Jimmy Fallon, who premiered the official video on The Tonight Show’s Tumblr. The group’s searing live show, meanwhile, helped them notch festival appearances from Bonnaroo to Summerfest and prompted Live Nation to name them to their Ones To Watch series. Los Angeles-based singer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Tim Carr has released his new single, "Take Me There." A delicately melancholy single, "Take Me There" touches on the desire to escape apathy, highlighting the need to either let go and fully love or let go of a love. Via raw, understated tones, delicate instrumentation, ethereal vocal harmonies, and graceful melodies, Carr succeeds in crafting a beautifully poignant song. Get Plugged In above. Raised in Marin County, Northern California, Carr was surrounded by a family of musicians. At an early age he immersed himself into music and studied Jazz drums at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts. After graduating with a BFA, Carr soon began working with notable acts including HAIM, Julian Casablancas and Nick Cave, to name a few. His time with the band The Americans saw him performing on Letterman, recording with T Bone Burnett, as well as being featured in the Emmy-nominated documentary ‘American Epic’, which was produced by T Bone Burnett, Jack White and Robert Redford. Carr’s highly anticipated upcoming EP Swing & Turn, is the follow up to his 2016 release The Last Day of Fighting, which found success being featured on Robert Redford’s ‘Watershed’ soundtrack, alongside the likes of Beck and Thom Yorke. Swing & Turn is titled after the feeling of movement, like a dance between intimacy and independence, which is also a common theme in the music.
