Hailing from Canada, Kathryn Berry's 2016 debut EP, Beauty of the Brave, hit #1 on Stingray's Canadian Indie music channel while her song, "Come In," was named one of the "Singles of the Year" (2017) on the radio program Texas and Beyond, and two more, "Beautiful Daughter" and "Beauty of the Brave," were featured on Women of Substance radio. Now, Berry is prepping the release of her new album, Misdemeanors, due later this year and recently released the first track form the album, "So You're Goin' To California."
Penned by Berry and her producer, Sari Dajani, "So You're Goin' To California" blends the vocals of Natalie Merchant, the feistiness of Alanis Morissette, and the guitar crunch of Melissa Etheridge in the relatable track about letting yourself be a free spirit and escape the humdrum of daily life, if only for a night. Berry relays the story behind the song, "My partner and I had been fighting for weeks (I can’t remember why, just the stresses of life…). My brother had invited me to his birthday and the date was yet another source of conflict between us. But I guess the whole storm of arguments leading up to the day made me just want to say, “fuck it all”, I’m going back to a time (in my head) when none of this mattered. So, I decided to just go with it and have fun for the night, wherever it took me. I stayed out all night with a random stranger. In truth, he was a perfect gentleman but the whole incident actually made my partner wake up and see me again. Or maybe I just felt attractive again and he saw in me what he’d loved from the start. And that’s how ‘Goin’ To California’ was born." Get "Plugged In" to the song above and for more information visit: Website/Twitter/Instagram/Facebook Spotify/iTunes
