Terry McBride is one of the most accomplished songwriters and performers in Country music for the past three decades. He first came to Nashville from Texas in 1989 and quickly signed a recording contract with MCA Records. From then until 1994, he performed with his band McBride & The Ride releasing four studio albums which charted multiple Billboard Top 5 hits including "Sacred Ground" which went to #1 in 1992. The group also received nominations for CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year before disbanding in 1995. Afterwards, McBride turned his attention to songwriting with over 25 songs recorded by Brooks & Dunn including "If You See Him/If You See Her" (recorded with Reba McEntire,) and "Play Something Country". He has also written songs for a multitude for other well known artists including Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins, Kenny Rogers, and many others. His latest EP "Hotels & Highways" was released this past February and the music video for the title track can be viewed below. The Whiskey Gentry recently shared the video for their jaunty single, "Dead Ringer" which finds front woman Lauren Staley Morrow portraying various country artists while expressing the frustration of being a female in the business. She told American Songwriter, “‘Dead Ringer’ is a song I wrote when I was about to turn 30 and everyone kept asking me questions about what my life plans were – babies, careers, etc,” says Morrow. “We’d been working our butts off for years to make this band successful and people would be comparing me to other singers on the radio: the whole ‘do you know who you sound like?’ thing.” She continues, “For the video, our director Matt Odom thought we should poke fun of the line in that song that says ‘everybody says that I’m a dead ringer for the more famous girl on the radio,’ so we paid homage to all of the ‘more famous women” in country music, starting in the 1960s with Loretta Lynn and moving through the decades with 1970’s Dolly Parton, 1980’s Reba McIntyre, 1990’s Natalie Maines and Shania Twain. It’s all very tongue-in-cheek, and it was incredibly fun to get into costume and character to play these women I admire so much.” Enjoy the video below. A sensual track filled with touching lyrical imagery, “Lightning” delivers an intimate vocal performance from Amilia K Spicer while incorporating elements of anthemic pop onto the song’s folk framework. Ambient backing vocals provide further richness on the track, adding further depth. “Lightning” showcases Spicer as a strong songwriter, vocalist, and lyricist – and the track features performances by musicians such as guitarist Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams) and drummer Michael Jerome (John Cale, Better than Ezra). After losing her mother to cancer, Suzi Oravec made the decision to move to Nashville, TN to pursue her love of music full time. From Lenker's Thousand Springs, "UH-OH" is one of those songs that's heartwarming if you have that special someone and devastating if you don't. Lenker and Caroline Spence display that perfectly in the video for the song, which has a welcome twist. |
