![]() NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Press Release) – Country Music Hall of Fame members, Grand Ole Opry members, and five-time GRAMMY winning group, The Oak Ridge Boys announce the release of their Lightning Rod Records forthcoming project 17th Avenue Revival, produced by critically-acclaimed producer Dave Cobb on March 16. This is the group’s second project with Cobb, who produced the Oaks’ celebrated The Boys Are Back album released in 2009. “Having been in The Oak Ridge Boys for almost 52 years,” says Duane Allen, “it can be difficult for me to imagine a place where we have not been. However, Dave Cobb had that vision, and the result is 17th Avenue Revival.” “Old roads turned into new roads on this album,” adds Oaks’ member Joe Bonsall. For the new project, Cobb’s vision for the group was to dig way back into their roots of gospel music. But a different kind of gospel. One that took a hard look at the early days of rock and roll, which was influenced by spiritual, or black gospel.

The album was produced and recorded by John Vanderslice at his studio Tiny Telephone Recording in San Francisco, CA. "The idea for this song came from this feeling that we culturally see crying as a weakness. I was feeling extreme emotions with the loss of my best friend a year earlier and crying sometimes out of the blue," explains frontman Alex Chappo. "Certain situations would move me in a way that hadn't in the past. I was also appreciating the beauty of it all. It felt real, I felt alive." DO IT find's CHAPPO - the trio of singer Alex Chappo, guitarist Dave Feddock, and and keyboardist Chris Olson - working through multiple traumas by engaging in the creative process of writing and recording an album together. ![]() (Press Release) Don’t Let the Devil Ride, Paul Thorn’s collection of soulful songs originally recorded by black southern gospel groups, was co-produced by Billy Maddox and Colin Linden and recorded in 3 legendary locations: Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, and Preservation Hall in New Orleans. Don’t Let The Devil Ride features contributions from the Blind Boys of Alabama, The McCrary Sisters, the Preservation Hall Jazz Horns and Bonnie Bishop. After a dozen roots-rock records, Paul Thorn reclaims his past by celebrating the first music he was ever exposed to. Don’t Let the Devil Ride combines strong influences stemming from Paul’s life experiences and his earliest musical influence: gospel. Thorn spent his youth singing in his father’s Pentecostal church. But his most memorable musical experiences were at an African American branch of his father’s church, the Okolona Sunrise Church of Prophecy. “There might be ten people playing the tambourine, but the rhythm was locked in, and they’d let me play bass. I loved the Appalachian gospel of my parents’ church, but it was a treat to play with those musicians.” It’s a good thing the music he heard there moved him, because he was forbidden to listen to popular music. ![]() Watch "Far Off the Horizon" Winter Wilson are preparing to hit the road with the legendary Fairport Convention - but they could very easily be on the dole. This is the story of a couple who turned the nightmare of redundancy into a dream of playing music for a living... "We gave ourselves a year to see how things would turn out," says singer Kip Winter. "Five years later we are still getting away with it! It’s not easy, but playing music professionally beats working for a living." Kip and partner Dave Wilson were popular part timers on the folk scene and released Winter Wilson albums at their own leisure. But, following the banking crash and global crisis of 2012, things changed for the couple and music became the priority. Since then, critical acclaim has followed their every move and they even made one of the Daily Telegraph's 'Top Ten Folk Albums' of 2014 in the redundancy-inspired and intrepid 'Cutting Free’. ![]() WILKESBORO, N.C. The album represents something of a throwback to the 1970's piano-based long players by the likes of greats such as Warren Zevon, Randy Newman and Tom Waits. There are nods to New Orleans R&B and Chicano Soul while maintaining the urgency of the young roots rock bands McLaughlin honed his craft and musicianship with over the last dozen years. He admits, only half-jokingly "I want to play the piano the way Link Wray plays the guitar." ![]() Watch the trailer HERE LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Composer John Cage (1912-1992) is one of the classical world’s best known experimental composers and theorists.Electronic Music for Piano is one of Cage’s least known pieces because the score is among his most enigmatic and, consequently, there are few commercial recordings of it. Written in Stockholm in 1964 on hotel letterhead, the notes ask the performer to select parts from Cage’s Music for Piano 4-84 and use electronic equipment. Everything else is up to the artist’s discretion. Enter Tania Chen, the U.K.-based pianist who has become a revered and leading interpreter of Cage’s work. Recording in both London and Berkeley, California, Chen joined forces with Thurston Moore(Sonic Youth), David Toop (former member of the Flying Lizards, and recording artist on Brian Eno’s Obscure label) and Jon Leidecker (a.k.a. Wobbly, who has also worked with Negativland) to create a new version of this piece helmed by composer/musician/scholar Gino Robair. ![]() Old Crow Medicine Show will release the single “Flicker & Shine” on 1/19. Click HERE to listen to a preview of the song. Nashville, TN (Press Release) — Grammy award-winning American Roots band Old Crow Medicine Show has announced the release of their upcoming album Volunteer, due out April 20, 2018 via Columbia Records Nashville. The album was recorded at the historic RCA Studio A and produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson). Since the release of their last Grammy-winning studio effort Remedy, Old Crow Medicine Show has taken their versatility to another level, by not only reinterpreting Bob Dylan’s seminal album Blonde On Blonde, but also collaborating with pop sensation Kesha. Volunteer is yet another fine example of how Old Crow Medicine Show remains one of the most vibrant and forward thinking traditional bands of their time. The songs on Volunteer illustrate themes that resonate far beyond Old Crow Medicine Show’s diverse fan base, while also showcasing the depth in the group's songwriting. An album highlight “Look Away” inspired by The Rolling Stones, is Ketch Secor’s homage to his love for the history, both sorrowful and joyful, of the South. "A World Away” is an upbeat homage to refugees, an extremely relevant subject matter that Secor has been writing about since he was young. “Dixie Avenue” pays a playful tribute to the Virginia location where Secor and bandmate Fuqua fell in love with music. The album’s final track, the bittersweet love song “Whirlwind”, could easily tell the tale of how Old Crow Medicine Show built a successful career from the ground up. ![]() January 16, 2018 - It’s been nearly 20 years since Lucinda Williams melded roots, rock and country into the Grammy-winning classic Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.
