Dan Wilson announced that he will begin releasing a new song every month in lieu of releasing a new album. He notes, "I decided not to make a formal album for awhile, and just to put out songs one at a time," explains Wilson. "It’s a fun thought and of course I’ve seen other artists do it, it’s not my own invention. But it makes sense for how I create music. My life is no longer separated into album cycles - I’m always writing with people and on my own, and I’m always making records. It’s a constant flow and a constant output of my own and other people’s songs, so why not just put things out as they happen. Once I made my peace with that I realized that the rest of the world had already got there, I could have looked around and done it a lot earlier." The first song released is "We Ain't Telling." Wilson says of the song, "My new track, 'We Ain’t Telling,' is me in my musical home base: acoustic guitar, a little twangy, a little Americana, (whatever that means,) telling a simple story with some complex emotions bubbling under the surface. I wrote it during a two-month stretch when I was writing a song every day, and this song and a bunch of others got lost in the chaos of that time. I kinda forgot about it for a couple of years. But a few years later I was in a session with Ethan Gruska, Jenny Long, and Evan Vidar to record “Yoko,” and we decided to try this one too. And it just happened. We cut it live, vocals and all, then Ethan added the lead guitars afterwards." Dan Wilson will be touring this fall, making stops in Nashville, Chicago, New York City and more. LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Perhaps the only subject more fascinating than the mysterious world of dreams is the mysterious world of Bob Dylan. Dreaming of Dylan: 115 Dreams About Bob brings the two together for a weird and wonderful romp through the ways the mercurial musical master shows up in our subconscious states. Created, collected and edited by celebrated singer/songwriter Mary Lee Kortes, the heavily visual hardback book, printed on quality art paper and designed as a unique gift item for Dylan devotees, will be released by BMG on November 13, 2018. Kortes’ band, Mary Lee’s Corvette, generated significant buzz after releasing a live song-for-song interpretation of Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks album that captured the attention of the artist himself. Dylan invited Mary Lee to open shows for him, and she was fully embraced by his devoted circle of fans. Over time people began to tell her about the dreams they’d had about Bob, which ultimately led to her curating and compiling this aesthetically engaging off-kilter collection of nocturnal visions. Paired with more than 100 original images, illustrations, and photographs, the collection of dreams will captivate readers in ways they never expected. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — There are many reasons Buck Owens and His Buckaroos were the hottest band in country music in the 1960s. But one reason was certainly Tom Brumley’s magically graceful touch on the pedal steel guitar. And as you’ll hear on this album, he’s also a fine Dobro picker. Steelin’ the Show, due out on Omnivore Recordings on December 14, 2018, showcases Brumley’s skill and innovative playing in 17 tracks selected from nine releases by Buck and the Buckaroos, including “Together Again,” which features Tom’s peerless solo —one of the most famous pedal steel guitar breaks ever recorded. Pre-order in all formats Will Griffith of The Great Dying admits, “It took a long time to get started.”, and “This is a record about mistakes.” He’s made music constantly since his teens either alone or with miscreant metalheads and punks in his hometown of Cleveland, MS. Griffith feels with ‘Bloody Noses & Roses’ he has a collection of songs that cover the breadth of his musical interests and attitudes toward life. Keen to cut a record, Griffith came to know Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers) and Bronson Tew, co-owners of Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, MS. The trio discussed the cinematic quality to the songs which Griffith says he picked up from favorites such as Iron & Wine. As a production team, Patton & Tew referenced everything from Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley to Dead Moon and The Stooges to give the songs the feel of a broken spirit or a set of bloody knuckles. With the record cut and sent to press, Will has booked his first tour for the month of October, ahead of the November 16, 2018 release. He’s optimistic. He adores playing and is looking to share. Though it may surprise some, he is outgoing for someone who says he’s “hopefully reaching for light in self-designed darkness” and “wants to take a stab at honest suffering in order to achieve true happiness.” "Carry Me Home" at Wide Open Country Grand Prize Winner - American Songwriter 30th Anniversary Songwriting Contest Award-winning Illinois-based country/folk trio have announced a November 9 release of their sophomore LP Weary Traveler and have shared the lead single at Wide Open Country. Referencing the group's award-winning 2016 single "Devil", the outlet praised the latest tune "Carry Me Home" in saying "With its three-part harmonies sounding richer, [this song] might just crush it in some other songwriting contest." If there is one thing we can learn from Shawshank Redemption, it is this: we have to either get busy living or get busy dying. Americana trio The Deep Hollow are firmly planted in the former. Through their sophomore record, Weary Traveler, Micah Walk, Liz Eckert and Dave Littrell dig into this sorrowful life of getting older, longing for a stable home and the sometimes unbearable weight of the open road. Sonically, the band fits somewhere between the pulse of Patty Griffin and John Prine and the adventure of Jason Isbell, The Lone Bellow and Brandi Carlile. SWAMPVILLE, Florida — Ever since Lucy Tight and Wayne Waxing joined their romantic and musical fortunes together, hooked their home to a trailer hitch and drove off to look for as many of America’s music-loving pockets as they could find, the duo known as Hymn for Her has been living many adventures, one stop at a time.Their red-hot blend of roots music — and ferocious live shows — have also carried them to locales around the globe, attracting fans everywhere they go. With Pop-N-Downers (out on October 5, 2018), they’re ready to reach even more. Their troubadour lifestyle has provided creative inspiration for several albums, earning the dynamic duoattention from a variety of roots radio stations and international music festivals. This new set of songs is seemingly inspired by travels far beyond America’s shores. “We never have an intent for where the music goes,” says Lucy. “Songs definitely forge their own path each time we record.” Mingling textures and tones far removed from the “hayride to hellsy” twang-rock blast of their 2016 release, Drive Til U Die, the songs on Pop-N-Downers simultaneously exude sophistication and a charming, childlike whimsy. A colorful Tropicália vibe floats through several of these tunes, imbuing them with a lightness of being even when the lyrics turn heavy. Nashville, Tenn. (September 28, 2018) At the 29th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards, 15-time GRAMMY® winner Ricky Skaggs was officially inducted into the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Skaggs was inducted by his longtime friend and fellow GRAMMY® winner, Marty Stuart. "He's a radical revisionist, he's a traditionalist, he's a keeper of the flame, he's an innovator, he's always keeping his music moving forward, he's invited so many people into the world of country and bluegrass music, he has become a universal touchstone to our kind of music," Stuart said from the stage. "Tonight, it's my honor to ask Ricky Skaggs to come up here and receive bluegrass music's most coveted award. I induct Ricky Skaggs, gladly, into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame." NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The World Famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Music City’s legendary honky-tonk, will celebrate its 58th Birthday in downtown Nashville Wednesday, October 10th. As part of the celebration, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge will feature entertainment on the outdoor Broadway stage throughout the day with a FREE, star-studded evening concert featuring performances from Platinum-selling powerhouse Randy Houser, international superstar Kid Rock and country hitmaker Jake Owen. Hosted by Ty, Kelly and Chuck Mornings' Ty Bentli, Kelly Ford and Chuck Wicks, as well as NASH Nights Live co-hosts Shawn Parr and Elaina Smith, the annual Broadway street-party will also feature performances from country music's finest, including Terri Clark, Darryl Worley, Montgomery Gentry, John Stone, Anthony Orio, Scott Collier and more to be announced! Inspired by the likes of Jackson Browne, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Crosby Stills & Nash and Neil Young, ‘First Ray Of Light’ is an accomplished 10-track collection of soulful, country-tinged and often-contemplative songs. The album is both personal and political, but rooted in the everyday experience of coping with life’s ups and downs. “Sometimes the only way to get something out is in a song,” says James. “You can find something positive in a rough situation; if you can write a song at least you’re perhaps turning it back on itself”. The title track ‘First Ray Of Light’ exemplifies this. There’s an understanding there have been bad times, but equally a positive message, of there being light at the end of the tunnel. You can also catch the hint of a Beatles inspiration with some backwards guitar during the solo; which recurs throughout the album: “I always try and bring out melody in everything because I love to sing along to songs. If I can’t sing along to a song I’m not so interested in it.” Other highlights include the candid songs about relationships; the precise and gentle ‘A Side Of You That Cares’ with its brave and affecting instrumental interlude, the soulful ‘When You Don’t Love Your Man’, and the keening ‘Learn To Love The Rain’. There’s anger too with the vigorous up-tempo opening of lead single ‘Turn The Screw’, an accusatory song about people in control who wreak havoc and cause damage with no comeback. And don’t miss the equally impassioned ‘I Won’t Support Your Wars’, a considered and unashamedly pacifist manifesto which was ‘anti-war song of the week’ with the Stop War Coalition. "Love Me Like You Did" premiere at Wide Open Country "Walking On Water" at Glide Magazine September 27, 2018 -- Southern Indiana alt-country/Americana outfit Nick Dittmeier & the Sawdusters have shared singles from their forthcoming LP All Damn Day, due October 26th. Wide Open Country praised Dittmeier's songcraft on "Love Me Like You Did" as "heartland rock riffage meets classic country storytelling" while Glide compared the group favorable to the likes of John Fogerty and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Southern Indiana musician Nick Dittmeier finds a needed reprieve from the looming presence of loss in his life with his new record All Damn Day (due October 26th). Fronting Nick Dittmeier & the Sawdusters, the singer-songwriter lingers on the omniscient Grim Reaper in a way that’s hopeful and uplifting as it is forlorn, harkening to the works of such literary giants as John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway, Roald Dahl and Mark Twain. |
