Acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Sean McConnell Wraps Banner 2016 with the Release of Holiday Song “Mary and Joe” and Acoustic Video

Nashville, Tenn. (December 16, 2016) – Acclaimed singer-songwriter Sean McConnell celebrates the release of his new holiday song  “Mary and Joe”  today. Additionally, McConnell has released an acoustic performance video for the song. Watch the video  here.

McConnell says, “I was taken with the idea of imagining Mary and Joseph as a modern day young couple, possibly shunned and poor and struggling to bring their baby in to a cold world without any means. I wanted the song to have some real blood and sweat and edges to it. It was really intriguing and emotional for me to explore the thought of these characters surrounded by a world of cheap cars, seedy motels, exit ramps, and dilapidated parking lot shacks. It was almost an exercise to see what would happen if I focused almost entirely on the human instead of the divine. It's a gritty and raw take on the Christmas story and I love that about it."

n another example of a year to be remembered, 2016 has distinctly highlighted the hard work and dedication of acclaimed singer-songwriter McConnell. He released his self-titled Rounder Records debut this summer, which immediately landed at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. NowSean McConnell  appears as one of the Top 100 Albums of 2016 among The Americana Music Association’s  Americana Radio Chart Top 100 and the #1 album on The Daily Country's 50 Essential Albums of 2016 list. McConnell was also chosen as a 2017 American Songwriter  Lyric Contest judge for the 33rd year of the illustrious event.

A road warrior, McConnell spent the majority of 2016 playing to packed houses along his headlining club tour. Starting in February 2017 he’ll return to his original hometown of Decatur, GA for two shows, followed by stops in his current city of Nashville and Birmingham. McConnell will also take part in the esteemed 30A Songwriters Festival and Folk Alliance International before making several dates in Texas where he is embraced as part of the Red Dirt songwriters community.
