May 9, 2017 (Press Release) - Actor/musician Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother) and indie-troubadour Ben Lee have formed a new indie-pop duo by the name Radnor and Lee. The duo's debut LP is due out later this year, and their new single "Be Like The Being" recently premiered at Yahoo Music who called Radnor & Lee's music, "Witty, hopeful, yearning, joyful, searching and meditative."
The music of Ben Lee has taken a decidedly more spiritual turn over the past decade. Whether this path developed from his finding solace in a deeper devotion to his wife and family or from the world we live in becoming increasingly volatile, Lee has chosen to use his music as a divining rod for inner peace. The Jewish-born, Hindu musician has not shied away from exploring spirituality or religion, an area that many musicians fear to tread. Lee began his career as a young teenager in the early 90’s, in the Australian lo-fi punk band Noise Addict, who were discovered by taste-making artists Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys. This began a now almost 25-year career of producing intelligent and spiritual indie-pop songs that have soundtracked Ben’s inner life in music.
With his last full-length album, 2016's Freedom, Love & the Recuperation of the Human Mind, and his children's record, 2017's Ben Lee Sings Songs about Islam for the Whole Family, Lee has shown a clear preference for using his quintessential talent for crafting catchy, hummable songs to tackle some of life's biggest questions. With his latest project, he pushes even further into exploring creation and how one should live their lives. This time he is partnering up with director/actor/musician Josh Radnor, whom most people will know from his starring role in CBS's Emmy-nominated comedy How I Met Your Mother.
Radnor has also written, directed and starred in two feature films, Liberal Arts and HAPPTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE, both of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where the latter won the 2010 Audience Award for Favorite U.S. Drama. He has also worked extensively on Broadway and off-Broadway. Friends for over a decade with a shared interest in spirituality and philosophy, they had always said they should write a song together. One song turned into ten, and Radnor & Lee was born. After their first live show at Hotel Cafe, a friend described their music as “the intersection of pop and prayer.” Upon hearing this, their producer Ryan Dilmore dubbed them “singer-psalmwriters.” The songs are witty, hopeful, yearning, joyful, searching, and meditative. Radnor & Lee’s debut single “Be Like The Being” is a call back to the present moment, the only place where the human heart can breathe easy. It is a catchy piece of melody folk pop that gives us a taste of what their upcoming LP, due out later this year, is all about.
