NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 7, 2018) –The Grand Ole Opry welcomed home Bobby Bare as an official Opry member tonight, on this, the Country Music Hall of Famer’s 83rd birthday. Bare had been a member of the Opry cast in the 1960s and 70s, after which his official Opry membership lapsed. The evening was documented in The Tennessean. Bare began his Opry set with a collaboration with Mary Gauthier, on “I Drink,” a song she penned and which appears on Bare’s most recent album, Things Change. Bare’s son, Bobby Bare, Jr., then joined his father on the 1970 hit “Come Sundown.” It was the pair’s first Opry collaboration in more than 40 years.

April, 2018 (Press Release) Troubadour Phil Cook continues his journey with his second solo release, PEOPLE ARE MY DRUG, out June 1 on Psychic Hotline/Thirty Tigers. Billboard premiered “Steampowered Blues,” the first track off the album. Cook reflects on the track:, ““Steampowered Blues” is the first song I wrote for PEOPLE ARE MY DRUG. I’ve long been drawn to the swing and swagger of New Orleans’ step rhythms. The left-right bass lines get my feet stepping, whereas the drums channel my hip movements and the weightless carefree melodies often coax my arms from my sides toward the sky. Lyrically, it’s playful in a way that I can get behind. Tamisha Waden and Chastity Brown’s vocal expressions are stunning. The payoff when Mountain Man enters at the end of the double-time chant makes me cheer every time. Within my mortal body and experience, this music is my church.” NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Fri., April 6, 2018 Press Release) – Kentucky multi-instrumentalist Britton Patrick Morgan will release his self-produced debut album, High Lonesome Throne, on May 25. I really love old traditions but I embrace new musical ideas and progressive arrangements,” explains the former Alaskan fisherman and off-grider. The album, available for pre-order now, prominently features the talented Cheyenne Mize and the legendary bass player for Johnny Cash, Dave Roe. Track Listing for High Lonesome Throne:
BRITTON PATRICK MORGAN Website || Facebook || Instagram Portland, OR-based singer-songwriter John Craigie announces the April 21st vinyl release date of his new full length Scarecrow. The completely analog album was recorded live to a 2 inch tape, mastered to tape, and cut straight to be pressed to vinyl. Preorder the album HERE. “These are songs written for last year’s No Rain, No Rose, but were cut from the album because they’re slower and softer in feel than the rest of that album,” Craigie explains. “They are sort of homeless songs, which is one reason why I used the name Scarecrow. They are songs that are out alone in a field.” “Scarecrow was self-produced, and as you’ll hear there isn’t much production,” Craigie continues. “Most songs were done either on first or second take. It turns out lots of people record to tape, then mix digitally on Pro Tools, but it’s uncommon to go analog for the full process. I think vinyl fans will appreciate the sound and the fully analog process, while Craigie fans will appreciate putting on a record that is really chill and vibey.” NEW YORK, N.Y. (Press Release) — Popular music was in a creative upheaval in the late 1970s. As the singer-songwriter and producer Chris Stamey remembers, “the old guard had become bloated, cartoonish, and widely co-opted by a search for maximum corporate profits, and we wanted none of it.” In A Spy in the House of Loud, he takes us back to the auteur explosion happening in New York clubs such as the Bowery’s CBGB, as Television, Talking Heads, R.E.M., and other innovative bands were rewriting the rules. Just 22 years old and newly arrived from North Carolina, Stamey immersed himself in the action, playing a year with Alex Chilton before forming the dB’s and recording the albumsStands for deciBels and Repercussion, which still have an enthusiastic following. A Spy in the House of Loud vividly captures the energy that drove the music scene as arena rock gave way to punk and other new streams of electric music. There are engrossing backstories about creating in the recording studio, as well as insights into other people’s music and the process of songwriting. Photos, mixer-channel and track assignment notes, and other inside-the-studio materials illustrate the stories. A Spy in the House of Loud reads like a Mozart in the Jungle for indie rock, depicting a Southern artist’s coming-of-age in a New York scene that has been stereotyped as all punk rock, safety pins, and provocation. Stamey’s book shows another side of the CBGB era, as he searches for new ways to break the rules and make some noise. NASHVILLE, Tenn. With three albums under their belts - 2010’s Lindsay Lou, A Different Tune, 2012’s Release Your Shrouds, and 2015’s Ionia - the band is set to release their latest, a transformative and heart-wrenching album titled Southland. The identity for this particular record - the beauty with which its sound slips into the ether - didn’t come by crazy random happenstance. The year leading up to its recording, 2016, was a rough year emotionally for several of the band members so - after taking a beat to really delve into the roots of it all and work on themselves - the band is re-emerging with material written during that time in a cathartic and transformative light.
"For those of you not in the music business, a tribute album is a way of saying "thanks for the songs but please don't sing them." - Gary Floater
On May 4th, Eight 30 Records will salute elusive singer-songwriter Gary Floater with Floater: A Tribute to the Tributes to Gary Floater. The eighteen-track collection features a veritable who's who of Lone Star state artists paying tribute to the man, the myth, and the legend via a musical journey of his classic tunes - simple, brutally honest, and laced with (oddball) humor and heart. Divided into two sides, with a short pause containing a message from Eight 30 Records co-owner Jenni Finlay, Floater kicks of with Walt Wilkins' laying it all out on “Whatever Man” then segues right into Jamie Lin Wilson and Courtney Patton relaying a dose of political perspective on “That's When the Eagle Screams," while Jason Eady rallies for a night of revelry on the bluesy “Stand Back Boys I'm Fixing to Care," and Brennen Leigh covets a good meal in “Pull Over I Wanna Eat That.” And that's just side one. Side two features additional forgotten treasures including Noel McKay expounding on the "joys" of performing on "Let's Get This Over With" and The Band of Apostles delivering the hard truths about a "Sad Mall," as Kelley Mickwee goes coastal on "Sunburn Lake," and Bonnie Whitmore welcomes a new "friend" on the jaunty "Hello Diabetes." Singular, subtle, and slightly kooky, the songs of Gary Floater speak volumes while giving us insight into the genius who influenced many. Today, TDC is pleased to premiere Floater: A Tribute to the Tributes to Gary Floater in its entirety below. You'll smile, you'll laugh, you'll wonder where these gems have been all your life.....and you'll wanna press repeat 'til the button doesn't work.
