Singer-songwriter Marshall has released "Tailspin," the anthemic lead single from his upcoming debut EP Sinners & Saints. The six song record will be released on June 8th & showcases classic country songwriting, heartfelt hooks & energetic rock dynamics. Produced by two-time Grammy nominee Travis Wyrick (Dolly Parton, Charlie Daniels, Shinedown) in Knoxville, the material on the EP flowed out of Marshall when he moved to Nashville after the brutal end of a long-time romance. Welding the gritty poetry of confessional singer-songwriter lyrics to a modern rock radio production & pop directness, Marshall’s songs combine the best of new & old country sounds with an authentic honesty & timeless ear for melody. A passion for music has coursed through Marshall's veins since his childhood split between rural West Virginia & North Carolina. Hailing from three generations of accomplished musicians & singers, the young musician was soon crossing state lines, paying his dues & honing his craft on tours with Colt Ford, Josh Thompson, Justin Moore & David Allen Coe as a backing musician & opener. Now ready to make his mark as a talented solo artist in his own right, Sinners & Saints will be the beginning of a long career for Marshall. Marshall & his band will be playing headline shows in support of the new single & EP this summer. For a full list of live dates, head to http://www.marshallrockscountry.com

Johnny Lee is set to release You Ain’t Never Been to Texas, his first studio album in ten years, on June 3. Listen to Lee tell you about the album below. For more information visit his website. Joy Oladokun is a LA-based singer/songwriter who combines the sounds of roots rock, with folk songwriting and a voice that oozes with soul and honesty. Writing and playing the guitar from the age of 10, Joy has always used music as a way to make sense of the struggles and celebrate the triumph of life. In 2015, Joy self-produced and released her debut EP titled 'Cathedrals', still available on iTunes. Last year, Joy raised $30,000 in a Kickstarter campaign for the funding of her first full-length debut album Carry. Joy states 'Every song stemmed from a lesson I learned, or a lesson I'm still learning. I write to process and to heal, and I sing to help others do the same. I think this past year has taught me that my voice is one of the few gifts I have, and I can use it to spread a lot of love and lift people up. That's the heart behind the album, and that's my motivation as a person too.’ Shelter is the first single taken from her debut album. As for the meaning behind the song she adds 'Shelter is a song I wrote about learning how to receive love, and fighting to give it without reservation or condition'. Joy will embark on a worldwide tour later this year to support her new material. (Press Release) — It’s true, every picture does tell a story. But the photo gracing the cover of Tommy Womack’s new album, Namaste, releasing June 24, 2016, silently hints at a lifetime of stories. Stories Womack is glad he’s still here to tell. The black-and-white image, by Anthony Scarlati, depicts Womack in profile, head bowed toward pressed-together palms. He is, unquestionably, giving thanks. Thanks to those who showed up to support him that particular night, a fundraiser to help him through recovery from a devastating 2015 car accident. Thanks to whatever powers kept him alive long enough to get clean in 2012 after years of addiction. And thanks for life itself — which he no longer takes for granted, not even for a minute. Their new album On The Ropes is out today,May 20, 2016 on Organic Records. Nashville’s Music City Roots’ Craig Havighurst says principal songwriter and frontwoman, Amanda Anne Platt “has a voice that’s complex, sweet and aching. Even more potently, she writes songs that folks are citing as up there with the best of the field, such as Mary Gauthier and Lucinda Williams.” This morning the album hit #38 on the iTunes Top 40 Country Chart and #12 on Amazon's Hot New Releases on Folk. It is currently at #1 on the Roots Music Report’s Country Chart! and #10 on the The Alternate Root Magazine’s Roots 66 Chart! Joining Amanda Platt to round out The Honeycutters are Rick Cooper, alternating between upright and electric bass, accentuating the band’s delve deeper into a rock sound blending with their old-school country roots attitude. Along with drummer Josh Milligan the two create a powerful pocket and groove that locks the album together, with Milligan’s vocal harmonies complementing and enhancing Platt’s lead. The pedal steel work of Matt Smith brings unexpected rock licks on an instrument traditionally reserved for a classic country sound in tracks like “Blue Besides” and “Only Eyes”. Smith also shows his prowess on electric guitar with rock, and R&B flavored runs and solos like in “Golden Child”. Tal Taylor’s mandolin cuts through with bitey, bluesy notes and fierce tremolo that pushes the instrument beyond its obvious folk appeal. NPR Music posted a great write up via First Listen and NPR’s All Songs Considered featured the experimental track “Ace” in one of their discussions. "The band evokes an almost airy Beatlesque sound at times, but also rocks hard...A bright, challenging album." - Boston Globe Paging Mr. Proust is a testament to a band pushing forward and exploring new territory while still maintaining elements of the Jayhawks sound. The new album features the longtime core lineup that includes Gary Louris, Marc Perlman, Tim O’Reagan and Karen Grotberg. Mountain Heart’s first new album in five years, Blue Skies, debuted at #2 on The Billboard Bluegrass Album chart. Blue Skies find Mountain Heart completely reinventing themselves with a brand new lineup featuring frontman Josh Shilling, Molly Cherryholmes (of 5-time Grammy-nominees Cherryholmes), Jeff Partin, Aaron Ramsey, and Seth Taylor. The new album has been met with critical praise with Rolling Stone Country stating “Though no original members remain, the new Mountain Heart manages to straddle the line between complete reinvention and staying true to their roots - there’s a palpable electric current running through ‘Blue Skies,’ while still maintaining the relaxed, festival-ready pulse they’ve become known for over the course of more than a decade.” No Depression said “...the prospects for widespread appeal are sunny indeed.” Shilling, barely into his 30s, is the group’s senior both in age and tenure. A sought after songwriter, he wrote most of the material appearing on Blue Skies, with a Chris Stapleton & Ronnie Bowman co-write and a stellar rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm” rounding out the set. The same soulfulness that gave the band its name in the first place is still there, but now voiced through a blend of musicians that make room not just for their bluegrass legacy, but for the excitement of R&B, the introspection of singer/songwriter ballads, the simplicity of classic country, and the atmospherics of modern folk pop. The 10-song set was produced by the band and was cut live to tape without edits or studio trickery. The group’s pool of talent has been profoundly deep and rich since it’s inception and the new configuration allowed Shilling the opportunity to handpick his favorite musicians on the planet. Every member of the new Mountain Heart could be considered a lead singer and are also multi-instrumentalists, which makes the possibilities both onstage and in the studio limitless. Shilling states, “Imagine being in a band full of producers, and sought-after songwriters, session players, and singers! It’s a dream come true musically speaking. This reinvention and the time between our last record has allowed us the creative space to create the best batch of songs we’ve ever released.” On February 12th, America got to know Australia's Henry Wagons a little better with the release of his solo full-length debut, After What I Did Last Night… Wagons enlisted “New Nashville” lynchpin producer Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Caitlin Rose, Andrew Combs) to helm After What I Did Last Night... With Wilson also providing some key piano playing, Wagons received added support from other regulars of Nashville’s vibrant Americana scene: lead guitarist Richie Kirkpatrick (Jessica Lea Mayfield, Langhorne Slim, Bobby Bare Jr.), drummer Jerry Pentecost (Jonny Fritz, Caitlin Rose), fiddler Josh Hedley (Justin Townes Earle, Jonny Fritz) and harmonica player Cory Younts (Old Crow Medicine Show) with buzzed-about singer/songwriter Rayland Baxter chipping in some backing vocals. "Henry Wagons understands how to evoke the dark heart of Americana better than most U.S.-born country musicians these days it seems." —Paste "A sharp, savvy, satisfying neo-roots record.” --All Music Nashville, TN (Press Release) - The Great Divide, the debut album from modern indie-folk band National Park Radio will be released on July 29th via The Edgewater Music Group. The Great Divide is a timeless and honest collection of original songs which reflect on family, the need to explore and a love for the outdoors. Although the band uses mostly acoustic instrumentation, their melodies are filled with infectious pop sensibilities. Front man Stefan Szabo grew up in the shadow of the Ozarks in the tiny town of Harrison, Arkansas. An old soul, Stefan married young, and had two daughters by the time he was 21. He played music and sang in his teens, mostly through a church group, but didn’t begin writing songs until he turned 27. Stefan traded the Fender Strat he owned for a six-string banjo (played/tuned like a guitar) and began writing most of the material included on The Great Divide. |
