(Press Release) WIXEN MUSIC PUBLISHING, INC. proudly announces that they've signed an agreement with the legendary and influential singer and songwriter John Prine. According to company president Randall Wixen, this agreement begins July 1 and encompasses all songs that the multiple Grammy Award winner controls including "Lake Marie," "Unwed Fathers" and "One Red Rose." "John Prine is one of America's great national treasures, and a songwriter's songwriter," says Randall Wixen. "It is with the greatest honor and respect that we begin our relationship with Mr. Prine and his family. To say that we are excited about working with one of our industry icons would be an understatement. We are eager to begin the process of seeking new uses for his songs." In an April 2016 New York Times feature, writer Dan Barry hailed Prine's "gift for articulating moments almost beyond words. His songs have won the respect of Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Pink Floyd, the Library of Congress, you name it. One admirer, Bob Dylan, once described his canon as 'pure Proustian existentialism' and 'Midwestern mind trips to the nth degree.'" http://www.wixenmusic.com

(June 23, Press Release) – Ralph Stanley, a patriarch of Appalachian music who with his brother Carter helped expand and popularize the genre that became known as bluegrass, diedThursday from difficulties with skin cancer. He was 89. Stanley was born and raised in southwest Virginia, a land of coal mines and deep forests where he and his brother formed the Stanley Brothers and their Clinch Mountain Boys in 1946. Their father would sing them old traditional songs like "Man of Constant Sorrow," while their mother, a banjo player, taught them the old-time clawhammer style, in which the player's fingers strike downward at the strings in a rhythmic style. It’s a manifesto. A mantra. But to call this Americana duo and their daughter road warriors would be a misnomer; to them, the road isn’t a battleground to conquer, it’s their beloved home. A nomadic tribe of three (formerly four; their late lab, Pokey, now serves as their guardian angel), they dwell in a ’61-vintage Bambi Airstream towed by a Ford van whose odometer shows nearly half a million miles — which, they proudly note, equals a trip to the moon. And back. Sleeping to the rhythm of spinning wheels, they thrive on spontaneity, friends and the moments that make it worthwhile: when they stand onstage and unleash their dynamic yin-yang of high-octane outlaw rockers and honey-sweet, harmony-laden ballads. (Maui, HI, Press Release) Lily Meola is among the most acclaimed young singer/songwriters in recent memory, hailed by Rolling Stone in their recent "10 New Country Artists You Need to Know" as a "powerhouse...(like) Bobbie Gentry and Joni Mitchell went on a vacation to Hawaii together." The 21-year-old Maui-based songstress is now set to spend her summer in Los Angeles, writing and recording tracks for the eagerly awaited follow-up to her recently released debut album, THEY SAY, which is now also available at iTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/they-say/id1124674408 In addition, Meola will be among the top artists performing at the upcoming OHANA Dana Fest, slated for Saturday, August 27 at Dana Point, CA's Doheny Point Beach. The all-star benefit event - which also features such icons as Lana Del Rey, Eddie Vedder, Elvis Costello, Band of Horses, X, and Mudhoney - will help generate funds to support efforts towards maintaining coastal access in California's south Orange County state beaches. For complete details and ticket information, please visit www.theohanafest.com. Produced by Eric Helmkamp (Michael Bublé, Sarah McLachlan) with additional production from artist/musician Micah Nelson and the legendary Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, Chely Wright, George Jones, Merle Haggard), THEY SAY marks an indelible full-length debut for Lily Meola, rich with creativity, confidence, and deeply felt emotion. Among the collection's many highlights are tracks like the smoky opener, "Bad Weather," as well as standout vocal duets with Lukas Nelson ("Sound of Your Memory") and Willie Nelson ("Will You Remember Mine"), the latter song memorably performed by Nelson and Meola at both Farm Aid 2013 and Farm Aid 2014. THEY SAY further features Willie Nelson's instantly recognizable nylon-string guitar stylings on "LA" and "Movie In My Mind," along with a remarkable rendition of the timeless "Me and Bobby McGee," performed as a duet with its celebrated songwriter, Kris Kristofferson. Even with such luminaries on board, the undeniable star of the album is Lily Meola. With her strikingly soulful vocals and timeless approach towards songcraft, THEY SAY stands tall as the surefooted arrival of an original new musical voice.
