Thursday-Sunday, October 5 - October 8, 2017 at Infinity Downs Farm in Arrington, VA www.thefesty.com Charlottesville, VA -- The Festy Experience is excited to announce the second round of its music lineup for the 8th annual festival, happening October 5-8, 2017 in the Blue Ridge Bowl at Infinity Downs Farm in Arrington, Virginia. The lineup comprises a carefully curated blend of national and local roots music acts and additions include Ani DiFranco, Elephant Revival, Beats Antique, Joan Osborne, Sierra Hull, EmiSunshine, Della Mae, Shook Twins, Sarah Siskind & Sunliner, Phoebe Hunt, Maggie Koerner, Dori Freeman, Erin Lunsford, and Tara Mills. Danny Barnes, Nick Forster, and Gallatin Canyon have also been recently added! Other performers already announced include The Infamous Stringdusters, Drive-By Truckers, Sam Bush Band, The Travelin' McCourys, The Jerry Douglas Band, Cabinet, Billy Strings, Love Canon, Carl Anderson, and The 8th Annual Garrettgrass Gospel Hour. Tickets are on-sale now. With half of the lineup consisting of female artists, The Festy Experience Director Michael Allenby says, "We recognize that the previous version of the music industry is hurting and can not invest in artists and progress their careers. It is now the promoter's job to evolve the industry and we believe that gender equality is a critical issue. Other industries often claim that gender inequality is a ‘pipeline issue’ that will take a long time to evolve; however, there's no shortage of amazing female artists and performers. The marketing of this talent happens AT festivals… not just FOR festivals. “The fact that the first half of this year's Festy lineup was ALL MEN went surprisingly unnoticed by most.” Allenby continues, “We see unbalanced programming too often and wanted to do something to draw attention to the issue. It's one of many progressive changes that The Festy intends to roll out over the coming years and we are challenging promoters to make social progress a priority in all aspects of large-scale community gatherings."

Less than one week after the release of 'CHUCK,' the first album in 38 years from founding rock and roll legend Chuck Berry, comes the second-ever Chuck Berry music video for "Darlin'." The song is a gentle, euphonic duet between Berry and his daughter, Ingrid, furthering the familial essence of a record that also features three generations of Berry guitarists (Chuck, Charles Berry Jr., and Charles Berry III). The video illustrates that lifelong father-daughter relationship through never-before-seen Berry family footage, home movies and photos. Watch "Darlin'" HERE. Available now for pre-order on Cornelius Chapel Records (Press Release) The Bohannons are a bit of a Tennessee institution, but the central tenant of their music is their unwavering commitment to making challenging records. Their third full length album, Luminary Angels, promises nothing short of that commitment. This is their first album on Cornelius Chapel Records, which is owned by Elliot McPherson of the Dexateens. Brothers Marty and Matt Bohannon have been at it for a while; the two made their first recording on a four-track cassette tape in a duplex garage at their parents’ home. Their first release in 2008, Songs for the Disenfranchised, found them performing at Mucklewain Festival and completing a tour of England. In 2010 the brothers recorded the Days of Echo EP at Chicago’s Electrical Audio Studio produced by both Steve Albini and Vance Powell of Nashville’s Sputnik Sound, and guest musicians included Jimmy Matt Roland (Ghostfinger) and multi-instrumentalist, John Spiegel (Freakwater.) After the success of their EP, The Bohannon brothers went on to record their critically-acclaimed debut album, Unaka Rising at Chase Park Transduction, with both David Barbe (Drive-By Truckers) and Drew Vandenberg. The album’s title references the Unaka province of East Tennessee and western North Carolina, a place that has inspired much of the lyrical poeticism found in Bohannons’ songs. Their sophomore album, Black Cross, Black Shield, put them at the top of a new breed of bands to emerge from the South by delivering an intense, highly-charged platter that incorporated punk, metal and southern roots music into a heavy and heady melting pot of sounds and styles. Guest musicians on the album include James Leg (piano and Fender Rhodes), Nikki Ellis and Mary Higgins (backing vocals) and Jimbo Mathus (harmonica). The four piece band continually show respect and dedication to their Southern roots, as they are known locally for hosting national and international artists in their hometown of Chattanooga, a mid-size post-industrial southern city with a burgeoning arts scene. The land and the population are indicative of the material generated by the band. For more information visit HERE. Countrypolitan songwriter Whitney Rose celebrates her return to Lone Star State after a four-month tour that included North America, the UK and Europe with – fittingly – a suite of shows in South Texas. One highlight among many was a memorable night in Utrecht, where she played to 3,000 people opening for The Mavericks. Rose was also greeted with many of her own sold-out shows throughout the tour. South Texas Suite, released in January by Six Shooter Records, is Rose’s most recent and highly praised EP. “Recorded in Dale Watson’s Ameripolitan Studios, the album offers up jaunty conjunto flavor, waltzing dreaminess, and a nice bit of brazen boot stomping in the span of only six tunes,” wrote Dallas critic Kelly Dearmore. (Press Release) Silverado Records is proud to announce the upcoming release of Summer on Repeat, a multi-artist compilation album featuring the label's roster of talent, plus several guest artists. Husband-and-wife duo Swearingen and Kelli are preparing to release their new album, The Marrying Kind on July 21, 2017. Steeped in the sounds of Americana and Folk, the Florida-based twosome - AJ Swearingen and Jayne Kelli - presents twelve songs that challenge the listener to explore life’s hard questions on topics such as taking risks, death, and the struggle to make a connection, while embracing the moment. Honest songwriting, emotional, balanced vocals, and a poignant, yet haunting melody figure prominently on one of the album's tracks, “Annalise” the tale of a man holding onto a memory of his true love. "Annalise your memories are so cold. But you're still the light that shines from long ago I can't believe the way you left it all. And I waited through the winter and the fall. Don't you burn it down, don't you burn it down" AJ Swearingen tells the story behind the song, "This song was inspired by multiple conversations with a friend back home, who, after many years, is still holding onto a love from his past. The idea of that love still haunts him and keeps him from moving forward. There is a real person symbolizing his Annalise." The video, while shot on a beautiful ranch in Plant City, Fl exudes a heavy, almost nebulous atmosphere that is complimented by the imagery present. Swearingen comments on the inspiration behind the treatment, "Jayne immediately had a vision for the darker vibe of this song. Our director [Donna Green, who also shot their album cover] put on camera filters to create this mood despite the bright Florida sun." Kelli adds, "We love working with her. She and her crew successfully built the mystery of Annalise and mood of the video with slow-motion and artsy b-roll." While the video features a performance from the duo and their band, it also focuses on Annalise (or the memories of), a majestic white horse, and the place she left behind. Kelli relates her favorite part of the shoot and video: "Having our close friends and their beautiful daughter be a part of this video made it really special for us. [And my favorite part of the video is] where Annalise (Julia) is swinging in the barn and vanishes." And the beautiful white horse featured in the video? Swearingen notes, "Their big white horse, Marco, who is featured in the video, would follow everyone around and even managed to sneak up behind us once in a while!" TDC is pleased to premiere the video for "Annalise" which you can watch in its entirety above. For more information visit HERE |
