(Press Release) Montreal, Canada-based Americana singer-songwriter Melissa Plett is set to release her new full-length studio album on September 1, 2017. Entitled Ghost Town, the album was recorded in Nashville at Omnisound Studio with the help and guidance of well-known Nashville musician/producer Pat Severs and the collaboration of countless talented locals. The eight songs encapsulate Plett, who is a glittering bound of energy who holds your attention captive, blasts you across the room with her powerful voice and then slowly reels you in like a tractor beam, weaving her life experiences into the fabric of her craft with a laugh or with a tear. Her music is enriched by a lifetime of love and warmth, yet scarred by devastating heartbreak. Her influences come from the down-south storytelling of Johnny Cash, the pioneering tell-all nature of Kitty Wells, and the heart-wrenching tales of hardship from Etta James and Ray Charles. The video for the album’s title track, “Ghost Town,” will premiere the morning of Monday, July 24th at www.bucketlistmusicreviews.com. Though he died at age 27, the founding Big Star member left a recorded legacy larger than commonly known. I Am the Cosmos contains eight unissued bonus tracks, plus two tracks appearing on CD for the first time. Liners by Alec Palao and Bob Mehr. The Complete Chris Bell’s six LPs contains all the tracks released on Looking Forward: The Roots of Big Star and the deluxe I Am the Cosmos, plus a bonus LP with unheard 1975 interview, and an album by Bell’s Rock City. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Press Release) — After co-founding Big Star,Chris Bell released only two tracks of new music during his lifetime — a 1978 single on the Car Records label run by Chris Stamey (The dB’s, Sneakers) titled “I Am the Cosmos” b/w “You and Your Sister.” He would lose his life in a car accident later that same year. However, those were not the only tracks Bell had recorded in his post-Big Star years. In 1974-1975, Bell worked in the famed Château D’Hérouville near Paris, France, and later recorded at both Shoe Studios and Ardent Studios in Memphis. Some of that material arrived in 1992 as I Am the Cosmos to great acclaim. An expanded 2009 release nearly doubled the track listing, adding alternate mixes, as well as some of Bell’s pre-Big Star recordings. Singer, songwriter, and musician Billy Raffoul releases new song “Dark Four Door” today, July 14, on Interscope Records. “Dark Four Door” is the follow up to his debut single “Driver” which was released in May to rave reviews. “Dark Four Door” is available for streaming and digital download via all participating digital retailers. Indie-folk/Americana artist and John Prine's long-time guitarist, Jason Wilber will release his new album, Reaction Time, on August 11th. For the second album in a row, Wilber worked with longtime friend, producer Paul Mahern, who has produced and engineered records by the likes of Iggy Pop, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, and Okkervil River. The result of long, hushed hours spent scribbling in notebooks and dreaming up mournful melodies alongside cascading harmonies and jangling guitars, Reaction Time centers on unabashed honesty and vulnerability which bleeds through on the title track and songs like “Jealousy and Envy,” "Heaven," “Teenage Idol," and "Shame On You." TDC is pleased to exclusively premiere the video for "Shame On You," which centers around Wilber moving between a hotel room and arcade pondering what transpired between him and another. Set over a relaxed groove, Wilber's smooth vocals relay the stinging wounds that persist long after the dissolution of a relationship. Watch the video in its entirety above. Croce will be at NYC's City Winery on August 16th to showcase songs from the project. Says Croce, “I wanted to make a real soul album, but not a throwback Stax album or a Motown album or anything like that — even though Dan [Penn] was producing and there are great players from that world and Muscle Shoals on these tracks.” Sonically and in every other way, the intention on Just Like Medicine seems to keep things real. “We recorded this album in mono, to analog tape, primarily to two tracks and we never used more than sixteen tracks,” says Croce. “We did that not to be cool or trendy, but because these days everyone seems to be listening to music primarily on little devices and tiny speakers. In a world of amazing audio possibilities, we’re all basically listening to music on transistor radios again. After that first session, Dan explained that when he worked with the Box Tops, they only had like three tracks — one for the band, one for the vocals, one for string and horns. So that became our starting point.” Come out to hear Just Like Medicine and more, details below When: Wed., Aug 16 Where: City Winery, NYC 155 Varrick Street Showtime: 8 p.m. Tickets: $20-$25 A favorite here at TDC, Sean McConnell recently announced the forthcoming release of Undone due September 8th. The collection is an all acoustic version of last year's eponymous debut for Rounder Records. The original tracks are presented here in the same order, but were recorded live and alone (with just piano and guitar) to analog tape. In addition, the album features a new track, "Nothing On You," a duet written and performed with the supremely talented Lori McKenna. Sean writes in a mailing list email, "I’ve always been a sucker for an acoustic record. The bare bones, the stories, the chair squeaking, hearing the fingerprints glide across the strings, hearing the sound of the room it was recorded in. A lot of the music I grew up listening to was like that and I’m always drawn to it. It’s like a home base. And because a good chunk of my shows are just a guy and his instrument, I wanted people to be able to go home with a recording that sounded like what they just heard on stage. So I am pleased to announce the forthcoming release of “Undone”, the entire collection of my self titled record in the same order, track for track, recorded live and alone to analog tape. It’s just me and my guitar or piano...just like they were written and just like I perform them most of the year." It's a stunning collection that presents the songs in a beautiful new light. Officially distributed to the public via Rae’s Facebook, director/photographer Jacob Long was able to capture the emotional depth that Rae wanted to portray through two separate shoots and about three different edits. "Working with Camille Rae on this music video was all about bringing her vision for the song to life,” said Long. “We shot in a studio in downtown Knoxville where she gave a very real, very emotional performance in the video that comes through the screen. It shows her range and the scope of where she is headed as an artist." “’I Need Me’ is extremely important to me personally and artistically,” said Rae. “So I appreciate Jacob’s patience with me throughout this process. I was very particular about the music video’s sensitivity and the message I wanted to deliver. The lyrics are autobiographical about a situation where I felt like I was forced to conform to a life that didn’t fulfill my happiness… but I had the courage to make a change.” |
