Carter, his wife Sara and his sister-in-law Maybelle began their careers as three of the first stars of country music. From their earliest days as Victor recording artists to their international success via the phenomenon of border radio, the original Carter Family made their mark on the history of American recorded music. Beth Harrington’s documentary about this saga has played festivals and won awards and accolades across the globe. Omnivore Recordings, in conjunction with Harrington, is proud to present the soundtrack to this very important film: The Winding Stream — The Carters, The Cashes and the Course of Country Music. The film will be in theaters around the country this fall. Screenings in select cities will feature local artists performing Carter Family music. Check ArgotPictures.com for details. The soundtrack will hit stores on October 16, 2015. The originality and sheer energy of this genre-bending ensemble serves as a welcome wake up call for those who experience it. With roots in gypsy jazz, bluegrass, and hip-hop, Jon Stickley Trio combines Jon Stickley’s rapid-fire flatpicking guitar with the sultry and wild, yet refined, melodies of Lyndsay Pruett (Futureman) on violin set over the deep groove ofPatrick Armitage (Atmosphere) on drums. The three have fused their collective styles into a repertoire of exciting and innovative original music along with some captivating covers. Lost at Last was recorded in the band’s hometown of Asheville, NC at the iconic Echo Mountain Studios under the watchful eye of producer Dave King (The Bad Plus). While recording the album, King referred to the band’s imaginative sound as “this whole other thing.” King’s creative energy and inspired musical approach led the band deeper and deeper into the heart of their musical consciousness, which led to the solidification of their musical identity. “Working with our producer Dave King was a life changing experience for us all,” says Stickley. “He is an intense, master musician, but also a hilarious, life-loving, positive, HEAVY, ‘unimpeachable’, inspiring dude! He helped us find ourselves, and his mark on the album is undeniable.” Jon goes on to say, “We succeeded in capturing a lot of spontaneous energy.” The Iridium has a unique dual history as both a jazz institution and the home of Les Paul who played there from 1996-2009. The venue is described as the city's only "audiophile space- with amazing sound, sightlines great food and design." On August 18th and 19th, The Iridium will host Albert Lee and Grammy winner Cindy Cashdollar for four not to be missed shows. Albert Lee is “the guitar player’s guitar player,” recognized in music circles as one of the worlds finest, as well as one of the top rockabilly guitarists in history. In England he’s been a household name, and in Nashville and Los Angeles he’s been one of the most in-demand session guitarists there is; but outside of professional music circles in America, he’s one of those vaguely recognizable names. His song "Country Boy" helped to redefine country guitar for a whole generation of players, and was later to become a huge hit for multi-instrumentalist Ricky Skaggs. He’s played behind Muddy Waters, BB King, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Everly Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Joe Cocker, and Eric Clapton, who is on record as saying that Albert Lee is “the greatest guitarist in the world.” An English guitarist known for his fingerstyle and hybrid picking technique. Lee has worked, both in the studio and on tour, with many famous musicians from a wide range of genres. He has also maintained a solo career and is a noted composer and musical director. Lee has received many awards as a guitarist, winning five consecutive times Guitar Player magazine’s “Best Country Guitarist”. Lee is known within the music industry for his speed of playing and his technical virtuosity and yet by the same token, one of the most melodic, playing slower passages approximating the sound of the pedal steel guitar with his Music Man and Telecaster guitars which are equipped with B-Benders. Austin-based Dobro and steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar’s career has taken some surprising twists and turns that have led her to work with many leading artists in various genres; including Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Dave Alvin, Rod Stewart, Asleep At The Wheel, Marcia Ball, Jorma Kaukonen, Leon Redbone, BeauSoleil, Daniel Lanois, Redd Volkaert, & Peter Rowan. Cindy’s unerring ability to perfectly complement a song or step out with a solo has made her one of the most in-demand musicians on the American roots music scene. Her debut CD, Slide Show, features guest artists comprising a Who’s Who from the landscape of Roots & Americana music. Cindy was inducted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame in 2011 (the first female to be inducted), and The Texas Music Hall of Fame in 2012 Cindy first heard the unique sliding sound of the Dobro in her hometown of Woodstock, New York where she honed her skills playing with bluegrass legend John Herald, blues great Paul Butterfield, Levon Helm and Rick Danko of The Band, and many others who lived in the small but musically hip Catskill mountain town. Eight years and thousands of miles on the road with the premier western swing group Asleep at the Wheel helped her introduce the classic sounds of the non-pedal steel to enthusiastic audiences worldwide, and brought her five Grammy Awards and opportunities to work with musicians of the caliber of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton and The Dixie Chicks. Whether adding driving leads behind Rod Stewart or Ryan Adams, swinging an instrumental with Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion band, or trading blazing licks with Texas Telecaster master Redd Volkaert, Cindy does it all with grace, imagination, and taste. And, in answer to her most frequently asked question, yes, Cashdollar is a real name. When: August 18th and August 19th Time: 8pm and 10pm Where: The Iridium, NYC Tickets: $30 On September 25, Nova Scotia's award-winning acoustic crooner David Myles will release his official US debut album So Far through Little Tiny Records. Reminiscent of the late '50's folk/roots/swing era, So Far is a collection of David's songs over the years re-recorded and re-imagined in an acoustic stripped down format seamlessly combining the cool of Chet Baker with the ruckus of Chuck Berry. Today, Guitar World unveils the first video from the new album, a live performance of "Need a Break" with Myles and his trio performing around just one mic, premiering exclusively on Acoustic Nation. WATCH: David Myles - "Need a Break" via Guitar World "Acoustic Nation": http://ow.ly/QOmOn "I loved doing this video! It's us in our most natural habitat: standing close, one mic, no amplification, just the three of us and the song," Myles to Guitar World. "I've played with Alan and Kyle for years now all over the place and we have such a blast together. Nothing like playing music with your best friends. Especially when they rip like this! For years we searched for how to reflect the vibe we got playing live, and then we realized the key was to set up and play just as we would on stage. No messing around with head phones, no studio separation or anything like that. Once we did that, it just all made sense. We could just play and sing naturally and let the music really do its thing." Listen to "Need a Break" on Diffuser and "When It Comes My Turn" on The Bluegrass Situation. (August 12, 2015) – On the heels of his overtly successful 4x4 EP release co-produced by Frank Rogers, Granger Smith continues to be one of today’s most talked about artists. Adding to the excitement, Granger has just been announced as the newest act to join the eclectic BBR Music Group roster. Entrepreneur.com recently spoke with Granger and BBR Music Group’s Executive Vice President Jon Loba about the importance of branding and the use of unique content to build an engaged audience. “To Expand Your Brand, Create An Alter Ego” by John Brubaker can be read here. "I've held off for years in partnering with a record label because of my obsessive passion for writing, creating & releasing music my own way,” says Smith. “Because of my dedication to touring, fans have come to want and expect my music to be delivered in a very personal way, and my commitment to that won't change. In BBR Music Group, we've realized a like-minded passion and a simple obligation: don't change the foundation of what I've built, but simply magnify the message. It goes without saying that BBR has the firepower and for that, I'm extremely excited.” An incomparable warrior of national touring and curator of one of country music’s most beloved alter egos, Earl Dibbles Jr., Granger has always taken the path less traveled. He has cultivated a rabid social media following of nearly four million fans and consistently sells out headlining tours, breaking attendance and merchandise records. His brand new single, “Backroad Song,” is already making waves at country radio. It is this rare, dynamic path to success and Granger’s contagious charisma that first caught the attention of Jon Loba. “I tell unsigned acts looking for deals all the time to CREATE demand – prove to labels you can connect with an audience,” says Loba. “Granger is the epitome of doing just that AND is doing it NATIONALLY - not just regionally. His touring and merch business is already out-performing many signed acts with multiple hits. We are so excited to add Granger to the BBR Music Group family and look forward to amplifying the RABID demand he has created for himself and his alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr.” Granger is once again partnering with the renowned Frank Rogers to co-produce his full-length debut with BBR Music Group. He will also continue to take his electrifying live show on the road in support of “Backroad Song” and will give fans a preview of new music as he rounds out his national fall tour. Granger is booked by WME Entertainment. (Pictured Left to Right/ TOP ROW: BBR Music Group’s Rick Shedd and Teddi Bonadies; Tyler Smith, Manager, TS Management, LLC, BBR Music Group’s Carson James. When you do something for a really long time, it stands to reason that you’re gonna become more proficient at it.” Anyone who’s followed the artist during her long and prolific career knows that she’s not prone to braggadocio or self-promotion. So when she expresses such enthusiasm about her own work, one tends to pay attention. Over the course of a career that spans over 25 years and more than 35 albums, the English singer-guitarist has established a singular niche as one of rock ’n’ roll’s fiercest iconoclasts. Having built a powerful and influential body of U.K.-based work that established her as an indie/D.I.Y. icon, she relocated to a farm in rural Georgia to establish a new creative identity as half of Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs, a scrappy, resourceful duo with Texas-bred multi-instrumentalist and sometime vocalist Lawyer Dave. Over the course of six albums, the pair has carved out a catalog of elegantly idiosyncratic Americana, drawing from a bottomless well of country, blues, folk, gospel ands rockabilly influences to create music that’s deeply personal and effortlessly accessible.
