New Orleans, LA (Press Release) -- CSB Roxy Music is proud to announce the release of New Orleans (via Mississippi)-based songwriter/singer LYNN DRURY's national debut release, "RISE OF THE FALL" on September 29, 2017. In "Rise Of The Fall", Drury’s world-weary but thoroughly alive songs and performances recall such artists as Lucinda Williams, British neo-soul star Amy Winehouse and 1980s British indie-rock band, the Smiths. Recorded in New Orleans at Music Shed Studios, the 12-song collection of 'Mississippi grit & New Orleans groove' encompasses country, folk, rock, pop and classic New Orleans R&B. New Orleans' local cultural gumbo thoroughly flavors her new album. “Different elements came out,” she says. Drury is especially pleased with the variety of music in "Rise of the Fall", her eighth album. “A little folk and country. And the stuff we did at the end is more rocking, live-sounding.” Coining her music "NOLAmericana", the Mississippi native who’s lived in New Orleans for more than a decade, Drury soaked up the Crescent City’s special vibe and tempo. “If you’re living in New Orleans,” Drury says, “even if you’re a country artist or a folk artist, there’s a rhythm that infuses everything you do. When you walk down the street, you see brass bands, second line parades. All of that influences me.” This October 6 & 7, The Marcus King Band and their family & friends will descend on Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain, NC for the inaugural The Marcus King Band Family Reunion, a 2-day music festival featuring a lineup curated by King himself. Pre-sale tickets for The Marcus King Band Family Reunion will be available Thursday, August 24 at MarcusKingBand.com, followed by the public on-sale Friday, August 25. 2-day tickets start at $49.50. Given their almost non-stop tour schedule, The Marcus King Band tends to miss out on the family reunions they cherished growing up. "I remember these gatherings were always the happiest time for me as a kid. A stress-free environment where you are free to love the people you're around," explains King. "That's the aesthetic we want to bring to our festival. Community and happiness. There are no separate agendas being forced on anyone. Just an all-around good time." Listen to "April and May" NEW YORK, N.Y. — The zeitgeist is a moving target — and Chris Barron has always been a crack shot. The New York songwriter is no longer the debutant who set out on the circuit’s sharp end in 1988 with $100, a battered acoustic and a headful of the alt-rock anthems that would elevate Spin Doctors to global stardom. He’s a veteran approaching 50, living in a world changed beyond recognition, compelled to write the music that chronicles the here-and-now. As far back as he can remember, he’s had a hunger driving him onward, towards something just out of reach. In 2017, it propels him to Angels & One-Armed Jugglers (due out October 20, 2017 on Chrysanthemum Records), the culmination of a lifetime’s craft and a record both contemporary and classic.” Ask Barron for a pivotal moment from his journey and he’ll rewind the reels to a high-school music theory class, where a cherished teacher advised him to “learn the rules so that you can break them.” Almost four decades later, that same irreverent wisdom hangs over Angels & One-Armed Jugglers. In a cynical era of songwriting by committee, these eleven songs rip up the verse/chorus template, eschew the stock lyrical themes and crash thrillingly among genres, as this fascinating songwriter acts entirely on instinct. “I’ve taken stock of everything I’ve learned about music,” says Barron, “and I’ve got to a point now where I’m just following my nose. These songs range from old jazz standards to funky beer-hall folk tunes. But I’ve never really been that interested in genres. I’m just interested in songs. I think the reason it’s so eclectic is because the songs were chosen more thematically than based on genre.” On October 13 Lydia Loveless will release Boy Crazy and Single(s), a collection of 11 songs, including the 5-song EP Boy Crazy and six non-album singles, rarities, and covers from throughout the artist's career. The first vinyl pressing is on transparent beer yellow colored wax. Humming House will release their third full-length album Companion on October 6th. The follow-up to 2015's Revelries, the new album finds the Music City quartet expanding their sound into a new territory, creating sonic landscapes that remain compelling and honest while still maintaining a sense of intimacy that is derived from their roots of making music as friends all together in the same room. Today they unveiled the title track off their new album,
"'Companion' is simply about the excitement of meeting someone new and the thrill of being together," frontman Justin Wade Tam told Glide. "It’s about enjoying the most momentous and mundane parts of a relationship. The song came together in pieces. I split my time between Athens, GA and Nashville, TN for 4 years while my wife was working on her PHD at UGA. Needless to say, I had quite a bit of drive time on my commutes back and forth. The melody and lyrics to 'Companion' were written acapella in the car somewhere on I-75. I knew what the key would be, but I really had no musical direction. So I sent an iPhone memo (car noise and all) to Ben and Josh so they could come up with some ideas. When the three of us got together, they had developed similar riffs that soon became musical hooks for the song. It was a fun collaboration."
Austin-based Fairbanks & the Lonesome team with producer Raymond Richards (Honey, Honey) on their latest full-length, Nothing To Escape, due August 25th. Principal songwriters (and married couple) Erik Flores and Amelia Rose Logan's songs are thoughtful, gritty, and elegant with many centering around Flores' old drinking habits and the excesses that come with addiction. Flores notes, "I quit drinking a couple years ago, right around the time we started making this record. That seems to be a big undercurrent." And while mostly sad, yet honest, life experiences are at the forefront of the story songs on Nothing To Escape, the album will leave you anything but, as Flores' rock & roll background, their vintage harmonies, and the full band keep this album brimming with melodies that will have you fancying a dance rather than a Daniels (well, maybe there's room for both).
With assist from Richards, Flores and Logan explore varied sonic landscapes from the serene pedal-steel fueled title track, which sees Logan taking lead on a tune about spiritual freedom, to the folk-soul of "Revelation," and further down the line with the 3/4 time of "I Strike Again" a tale about the waking realizations of a blackout drunk, and the spacious shuffler "Pieces."
Fairbanks & the Lonesome Light's Nothing To Escape is a varied landscape that is at once intimate, reflective, enchanting, desperate, and full of gravitas. TDC is excited to premiere Nothing to Escape which can be streamed in it entirety above. For more information visit HERE. Historic Grand Ole Opry Circle Makes Texas Debut in Epic Throwdown Nashville, TN (Press Release) – August 23, 2017 – Aaron Watson hit it out of the park over the weekend alongside the Texas Rangers for an energetic crowd of 35,000 on Saturday, August 19. (Press Release) — For more than three decades, Flat Duo Jets have been the American rock underground’s secret, as hugely influential among musicians as they are obscure to the broader mainstream. And much of the Jets’ reputation is based on their first full-length album, the roots-rock landmark Flat Duo Jets, originally released on Dog Gone Records in 1990 — and coming back into circulation on a two-CD set, Wild Wild Love, to be released by Daniel 13 on October 20, 2017. Singer/guitarist Dexter Romweber and drummer Chris “Crow” Smith were still teenagers when they formed Flat Duo Jets in Chapel Hill in 1984. Inspired in equal measure by the Cramps’ haunted rockabilly and vintage drive-in horror movies, they cooked up a metallic version of rockabilly that sounded as if it had been launched into the deepest quadrants of the astral plane. “I had this place behind my mother’s house, The Mausoleum, and that’s where we formed the Jets,” says Romweber. “It was this campy ’40s horror kind of place. Gothic, but not English neo-gothic – more like the ‘Addams Family’ – and that’s what we tried to make Flat Duo Jets.” NASHVILLE, Tenn.
