ASHEVILLE -- Good things will come – and not a moment too soon. For Nick Beaudoing, the front man of Nashville, Tennessee’s Runner of the Woods, much of 2014 was spent in the shadow of a serious family illness. Between visits to his hometown of Dallas, Texas, he stayed busy in the studio. One night while listening to rough mixes of his work on the drive home, he had a gut feeling that things would somehow work out. “I’ve never had the experience of listening to my own music and being cheered up,” Beaudoing says. “It felt like a pat on the back at just the right time.”
Countrygaze that’s road trip-ready, Runner of the Woods' debut album, Thirsty Valley, is set for release in January of 2015 on CD and vinyl. With punchy guitars and odes to wide open spaces, the record is dedicated to the proposition that the key to the good life is time spent in the great outdoors.

Beaudoing previously led NYC’s Cajun honky-tonkers, the Doc Marshalls. Over the course of three releases, the band evolved from Bakersfield-style shuffles and Acadian barnburners to jagged, glimmering folk. The pedal steel was still king, but now it blared from a low-watt amp with a brash fuzz tone. 

This new direction, combined with his relocation to Nashville, conspired to lead him away from a project he loved, in favor of a less traditional sound. The Doc Marshalls, as a band, had run its course. “If he’s being honest,” says Beaudoing, “even a dyed-in-the wool country singer can’t pretend his record collection is pure. For every George Jones LP on the shelf, there’s another by Big Star, Phosphorescent, or A.A. Bondy. And that’s a beautiful thing.” To celebrate the debut track, Runner of the Woods released a music video for the song and is offering it as a free download available at bit.ly/GoodThingsWillCome.

Joining Beaudoing (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars) in Runner of the Woods are Jonathan Gregg on pedal steel, Joe Giotta on drums and Vanessa McGowan on bass. In a live setting, the band has the country chops to pack the dance hall floor whenever duty calls. A train shuffle beat or Gary Stewart-style weeper is never far away. But they also love it when people lay back and listen. Either way, you’re going to feel better.

Darius Rucker will release his first Christmas album on October 27th. The album, Home For The Holidays, will be produced by Frank Rogers and will be released on Capitol Records

The album will include holiday classics and two original songs, “Candy Cane Christmas” and “What God Wants For Christmas." Sheryl Crow will provide assistance on the standard “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

Rucker is prepping his fourth country album to be released in 2015. The album’s debut single “Homegrown Honey” is currently at country radio.

ASHEVILLE, NC -- Entering their second decade as an ensemble, Chatham County elegantly reconcile the past and future, tradition and innovation, on the fittingly titled Tightrope, released May 20, 2014 on Yep Roc Records. The sixth studio album from the Raleigh-based four-piece follows 2010's winsome, soulful Wildwood and the career-spanning concert album and film undertaking Sight & Sound, which was released in 2012. "With anything you've done for a while," Wilson explains, "a period of reflection helps you identify your strengths. Doing the live album did that, and in a way, we do that every night with the songs we choose to play at a live show. We usually don't use set lists, we just play the songs that come to mind. That really helped us prepare for this record."

Chatham County Line is currently on tour with Tightrope and will be performing at Steep Canyon Rangers’ Mountain Song Festival this weekend before embarking on the Fall 2014 later in September. The Fall tour kicks off on the East Coast with shows at the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater (Wilmington, NC) and Charleston Music Hall (SC). In early October they perform in their hometown of Raleigh, NC for IBMA’s World of Bluegrass before shows at Neighborhood Theatre (Charlotte, NC) and Terminal West (Atlanta, GA). In mid-October they travel North to Rockwood Music Hall (New York City) and The Parlor Room Northampton, MA. The tour finale is at Brighton Music Hall (Boston, MA). In November Chatham County Line flies overseas for a two week European Tour.

As part of the band’s unbridled excitement for year two of IBMA in their hometown of Raleigh, they have made a video for their song "Living in Raleigh Now." The song will be available September 23rd on all digital platforms and they will have a special Cassette/Download package available at upcoming shows.

Stirring, provocative, and disarmingly poignant, Tightrope was born out of a year's worth of intense focus, during which the band examined their own legacy while carefully honing new material. All the while, the band's four members –Dave Wilson (guitar), John Teer (mandolin, fiddle), Chandler Holt (banjo), and Greg Readling (bass, pedal steel, piano) – welcomed spontaneity and the sometimes palpable will of the songs themselves into the process.

"There's a lot of growing up in this record," muses Dave Wilson, Chatham County Line's vocalist and guitarist. "The next generation is coming. We're maturing in this world and seeing things through a different set of eyes – and that materializes in a lot of these songs…"

Produced by Wilson and Chatham County Line, Tightrope benefits from an unusually rich, resonant sound that blends each member's contributions into a powerful, dynamic whole. The  poetic insight of the album's eleven original songs is grounded by Chatham County Line's ongoing commitment to classic stringband instrumentation.

Chatham County Line allowed some songs to emerge out of informal jams or nascent fragments of melody. "Songs like 'Should Have Known Better' and 'Ships at Sea' were based on ideas that Teer had," Wilson explains. "We'd have instruments and mics set up, record the idea, and people would take the recording home and dissect it. We recorded them informally three or four times until we got something that could fit and make sense with what we do. It's those songs that we listen to the most now, because they were such spur-of-the-moment creations.”

Above all, Tightrope reinforces the deep bond shared by the members of Chatham County Line. The lineup has consisted of the same four men for ten years now, giving them an unusually solid foundation. They have grown up together, weathered storms together, and performed around the world – resulting in a vital, instinctive collaborative sensibility and deep reserves of trust. "This band really started out of a couple of friendships," Wilson concludes. "I was buddies with Greg, and John and Chandler were really tight. We came together by chance. You can't just rotate a guy out and replace him when you have these friendships and do this kind of original material. It's become something larger than that. It's a big train we're riding on and everybody's enjoying the ride."

Sons of Bill, Virginia's roots rockers (and yes, three members of the band are brothers and their father's name is William), will release their newest (and Pledge funded) album Love and Logic on September 30th via Thirty Tigers. The new record "takes me back to some of the creative heights we achieved in Wilco,” says producer Ken Coomer. “I’m only interested in making records that are still going to be relevant ten years from now, and this is one of them. It’s unmistakably the real thing.”

On Sunday, top Canadian country singer, songwriter and entertainer Gord Bamford took home three 2014 Canadian Country Music Awards including Male Artist of the Year and the all important Single of the Year for his Canadian Billboard Chart topping hit "When Your Lips Are So Close," which will soon be released as a radio single in the U.S.

In addition to the two top coveted categories, he took home the award for Country Music Program or Special of the Year for "Gord Bamford: Christmas in Canada" (CMT). Bamford was also honored with the Country Music Association's Global Artist of the Year, of which he said, "we're now ready to take our music to our friends in the U.S."

Reflecting on his overall success of the 2014 Canadian Country Music Week, Gord notes, "It never gets old to win an award. It makes you realize that the fans, country radio and the industry are watching what you're doing, and that they approve. I am having the time of my life and feel that my music is just getting started. Once again, I'm humbled by this recognition."

Country Junkie, the sixth studio album from the Alberta-based musician, was launched in Canada last fall and received a 2014 Juno award nomination for Country Album of the Year. A bona fide superstar in Canada - as the award wins attest, he commands legions of fans and the established respect of the press. On the U.S. side, Bamford's introduction won over fans throughout the summer, with shows in Arizona and Colorado earning raves. Lewis & Leigh are delighted to unveil the official music video for "What Is There To Do" today on their YouTube channel. It is the lead single taken
from their debut EP Night Drives out on October 6th.

Lewis & Leigh are an Alt-Country/Americana duo from London. Though they hail from Wales and Mississippi respectively, it was through their Nashville connections that Al Lewis and Alva Leigh met. Alva moved to London from Nashville in 2012, and both of their last solo albums were recorded there with Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars) and John
Mark Painter (Ben Folds) respectively. It was these Nashville connections that brought them together last summer at the London show of friend Matthew Perryman Jones. 

In early 2014, Al & Alva began writing songs together, and bonded over their love of Whiskeytown, Gram & Emmylou and Jackson Browne. In a matter of weeks, these country-tinged folk songs tumbled out to form a life of their own, and Lewis & Leigh was born.

They recorded their debut EP, Night Drives, at Urchin Studios in May 2014. It features a guest appearance
from the legendary BJ Cole (Elton John, Elvis Costello) on pedal steel. During the session, Lewis & Leigh
decided to record and film a live cover version of one of their favourite songs, “Say You Miss Me” by Wilco
which can also be viewed on their YouTube channel.
