On Sunday, top Canadian country singer, songwriter and entertainer Gord Bamford took home three 2014 Canadian Country Music Awards including Male Artist of the Year and the all important Single of the Year for his Canadian Billboard Chart topping hit "When Your Lips Are So Close," which will soon be released as a radio single in the U.S.
In addition to the two top coveted categories, he took home the award for Country Music Program or Special of the Year for "Gord Bamford: Christmas in Canada" (CMT). Bamford was also honored with the Country Music Association's Global Artist of the Year, of which he said, "we're now ready to take our music to our friends in the U.S." Reflecting on his overall success of the 2014 Canadian Country Music Week, Gord notes, "It never gets old to win an award. It makes you realize that the fans, country radio and the industry are watching what you're doing, and that they approve. I am having the time of my life and feel that my music is just getting started. Once again, I'm humbled by this recognition." Country Junkie, the sixth studio album from the Alberta-based musician, was launched in Canada last fall and received a 2014 Juno award nomination for Country Album of the Year. Bamford and his team were nominated in a total of 14 CCMA award categories. Bamford has amassed an amazing 19 CCMA Awards since blasting onto the scene back in 2008 when he won Top New Male Talent of the Year. This year, Bamford bounced back and forth across the border on his summer tour, filling different roles depending on location. A bona fide superstar in Canada - as the award wins attest, he commands legions of fans and the established respect of the press. To the south, he's the surprisingly polished newcomer fans and media are thrilled to discover. And he wouldn't have it any other way. On the U.S. side, Bamford's introduction won over fans throughout the summer, with shows in Arizona and Colorado earning raves. He played the massive Country Thunder festival in Twin Lakes, WI and Common Ground Music Festival in Lansing, MI both in July.
