Watch the video HERE AUSTIN, Texas — Whitney Rose announces her Rule 62 North American tour today, and shares one of life’s more difficult types of lessons — the kind learned the hard way — with another track from the forthcoming full-length Rule 62. The new song, “Better to My Baby,” is a rueful take on moving on, a dose of wistful hindsight and a piece of good advice all in one. Accompanied by a video that captures a relationship in candy-coated but bittersweet rear-view style, “Better to My Baby” features co-producer Raul Malo on lead guitar and harmonies. (Press Release) Americana/folk-rock duo The Contenders (singer-songwriter Jay Nash and singer/drummer Josh Day) is set to release its debut full-length album, Laughing with the Reckless, on November 3, 2017 via Rock Ridge Music (with distribution via ADA). The record is very much about the perseverance of hope in dark times along with the powerful connection of music, old friends, and loved ones, all delivered with a wry and wistful narrative, and is the follow-up to their 2014 EP, Meet The Contenders. Dear friend and fellow troubadour Joey Ryan of The Milk Carton Kids has said that it is not just an album of “infectious rhythms and sublime two-part harmonies,” but one that conveys a balance of hope with a unique and powerful sense of heartbreak. The pair makes the sort of music found in the intricate and varied tapestry that is real Americana—full of grit, with a steady heartbeat and a hint of honky-tonk—writing songs that speak of wanderers and highways, lovers and losers, good times and missed chances, all of it with a ferocity born of hard work and honed skill. The Contenders’ raucous foundation of rhythm and harmony is based upon such simple things—glorious two-part vocal harmonies, a guitar and drums. Wrote Country Weekly of the pair’s music: “The duo’s sound paints a picture of open stretches of road as well as lazy days at home—sonic comfort food constructed on a bed of groove and storytelling.” NASHVILLE, TN – Sept 6, 2017 (Press Release) – Ned LeDoux blazes his own trail forward on November 3 with the release of his first full-length album Sagebrush which carries on the traditions, music and cowboy way of life passed down to him by his Mom and Dad, Peggy and Chris LeDoux. Produced by award-winning Mac McAnally, Sagebrush completes and follows on the heels of his debut EP Forever A Cowboy released last year. Ned wrote or co-wrote eight of the 12 songs included on Sagebrush, and each song leaves no doubt as to what the LeDoux name stands for in country music. Sagebrush is a labor of love and a year in the making for Ned LeDoux. The Kaycee, Wyoming native wrote his first song with his songwriting and producer mentor Mac McAnally. After that Ned continued to write about his own life experiences, all the while maintaining his western style and staying true to the cowboy way of life he has always known, as in the song “Forever A Cowboy.” Ned continued to write of his time spent on the road reflected in “Brother Highway,” and about one of the most important things in his life in the love song “By My Side,” about his love and devotion for his wife and growing family. JD & The Straight Shot’s Good Luck And Good Night is due out on September 15th.
NYC-based Americana outfit JD & The Straight Shot will release their sixth studio album, Good Luck And Good Night, on September 15th and TDC is pleased to give you a sneak peek at the album's artwork which represents the classic, acoustic recording. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Jim Dolan (vocals, guitar), guitarist Marc Copely (guitar), Byron House (bass), Erin Slaver (violin/fiddle) and Shawn Pelton (percussion), Good Luck And Good Night blends Folk, Gospel, Blues, Rock and more in a collection that includes eight originals and two covers. Beginning with the foot-stomping tune of salvation "Redemption Train," the quintet segue into the Celtic-flair of the "Ballad of Jacob Marley" a fiddle and banjo driven tune about greed that features both Dolan and Slaver on lead vocals, the 70's inspired, spacious and romantic "Moonlight (where Dolan sounds like McCartney)," and the desolate feel of a love that cannot be fulfilled on “I Know, You Know, I Know.” From there, JD and his skilled musicians delve into the thoughtful and lively "Run For Me," following that with a well done rendition of the Three Dog Night classic "Shambala," a sweeping cover of the Eagles, "It's Your World Now," and the current, thoughtful title track, which features an unexpected, but welcome and touching, child chorus. Good Luck And Good Night is rounded out by the somber “Tonight” which touches on the terrors of domestic abuse and "Never Alone" which uses Maya Angelou's words to close out the collection on a hand clap filled, uplifting note. With precision sharp instrumentation, JD & The Straight Shot's acoustic Good Luck And Good Night finds the band expanding their lyricism via various topics and refining their sound into what is their best outing yet.
Known as the sideman and harmonica player with Pokey LaFarge, Ryan Koenig has worked both on and off stage to bring his talent to people all across the globe. On October 13th, Koenig will display other, often unseen, facets of himself as singer-songwriter and bandleader when he releases his debut album, Two Different Worlds. The ten-track collection is indeed a special one, touching on numerous topics from gentrification to spiritual loss and the dichotomy of reality and fantasy via genuine classic country melodies and well-crafted lyrics.
Today, Koenig shares a new song from the record entitled "Cheyenne." Featuring the stellar musicianship of John Horton (of the Bottle Rockets on baritone guitar), T.J. Mueller and Luc Klein (trumpet), Kristo Baricevic (piano), Joey Glynn (bass), Matt Meyer (drums), and Jenny Roques (harmony vocals), who give the tune its rich, reflective, bittersweet tone via Tex-Mex flavored horns and guitars alongside Koenig's distinctive vocals, "Cheyenne" relates the familiar sentiment of realizing it is time to say goodbye. Koenig had this to say about the track, which you can hear below, "There are many things that we must leave behind in life: people, places, times. There are many ways we leave them behind: physically, mentally, spiritually. Sometimes all of these things and ways seem to wrap up into one, and this song is about that. It is a timeless western scene playing out in the mind and heart, with blurred lines between character, place, and action." Pre-order HERE. Josh Abbott Band has now raised more than $40,000 with 100% of net proceeds to benefit Hurricane Harvey relief organizations.
