(Press Release) — For more than two decades, the Louisiana Hayride radio show was a Saturday night staple for music lovers. Broadcast by Shreveport, Louisiana’s KWKH-AM from 1948-1960, Hayride stood as the chief rival to the now better-known Grand Ole Opry. While the Opry favored established Nashville stars, Hayride offered headliners and newcomers alike an opportunity to perform. It was this policy that led Hayride to say “yes” to a young singer from Tupelo, Mississippi after the Opry said “no.” That singer, Elvis Presley, debuted on the show in October 1954 and later made his first TV appearance on the television version in March 1955. Presley’s 15 songs here (which include “That’s All Right,” “Baby Let’s Play House,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” and “Don’t Be Cruel”) are just a fraction of the more than 500 tunes stockingAt the Louisiana Hayride Tonight. Bear Family Records’20-CD box set holds a treasury of long-buried live Hayride performances — many of which have never been heard since the day they were broadcast — with perhaps the rarest of these rarities being the previously unknown recording of “I’m a Long Gone Daddy” by Hank Williams. The Oak Ridge Boys 'Celebrate Christmas' Available At Cracker Barrel® Old Country Store Locations10/13/2017 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Press Release) – The Oak Ridge Boys have achieved many historical milestones during their Country Music Hall of Fame career, and many of those from the past decade involve their albums being sold through Cracker Barrel® Old Country Store locations across the United States. Coming up on October 6, that streak will continue when the Grand Ole Opry stars make their holiday album, Celebrate Christmas from Gaither Music Group, available at the 600+ locations of Cracker Barrel® Old Country Store. No stranger to Yuletide musical offerings over their career – this being their seventh, the disc features many timeless holiday classics such as “Away In A Manger” and “Joy To The World,” with a few new songs thrown in for good measure. New songs include the breathtaking “Come To The Manger” and the endearing “Rest In You Tonight.” Longtime tenor singer Joe Bonsall says that finding the right mix of the past and the present is a must. “First of all, we have to find songs we’ve never recorded before and that’s always challenging. Because we’ve done so many Christmas albums over the years, there aren’t a lot of classics left. Duane (Allen) works hard to find songs, whether it’s for a regular project, a Gospel project or a Christmas project. We try to mix it up, and that’s always been our goal.”

MacArthur Foundation announced that singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens has been named a MacArthur Fellow. The MacArthur Fellowship, often referred to as a “genius grant,” offers an unrestricted $625,000 grant, distributed over five years, to, in the Foundation’s words, “individuals who show exceptional creativity in their work and the prospect for still more in the future. Giddens said of being awarded the Fellowship: “I am just thrilled! So many things I want to do - but the first thing is to thank whoever nominated and supported me for this grant - it means the world to me, and to the projects I have been longing to do”, and added in an interview with her home town paper, North Carolina’s News & Observer, “it’s gonna let me live a little bit. I’ll be able to pursue some things while not having to stay on the road so much to keep the lights on. This will let me tour a little less and work on larger projects I believe need to be done.” More info about Giddens and her Fellowship, including downloadable photos and video, is available here. |
