Louise Goffin’s latest single “Revenge” is one that arrived because of wonderful happenstance. In fact, it came about because of The Band. In March of 2017, Goffin was part of a star-studded Band tribute concert held in Los Angeles to raise funds for the non-profit Wild Honey Foundation. Backstage, she met her fellow performer, the young North Carolina-based singer/songwriter Skylar Gudasz. Bonding immediately, they decided to try writing a song together. When the two met up later at Goffin’s L.A. house, Gudasz showed up with a guitar riff and Goffin brought a lot of lyrics. It was, as Goffin recalls, “a fast match,” with the rest of the chords, lyrics, and melody quickly falling into place. Excited with their new tune, Goffin suggested demoing it in her backyard studio, a place Gudasz fondly describes as “a magic treehouse.” The two proceeded to work up the vocal arrangements, and Goffin put down the keyboard, baritone bass, guitar and drum tracks, while Gudasz added in some slide guitar.  LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Press Release) — During the British Invasion, there was another Liverpool band topping the charts worldwide. The Searchers had 11 Top 40 hits between 1963 and 1966 in the U.K., including three #1s with “Needles and Pins,” “Sweets for My Sweet,” and “Don’t Throw Our Love Away.” There were eight hits in the U.S. including a #3 cover of “Love Potion No. 9.” By the end of the decade, the group’s chart presence may have slowed down, but the Searchers didn’t. They continued to hone their sound on the live circuit, adding a modern musical crunch to their incredible harmonies. After seeing the band perform, Sire Records head Seymour Stein offered them a home on his new wave flagship label (home of the Ramones, Talking Heads, Dead Boys, and soon, Pretenders).
The Searchers returned in 1979 with a self-titled release, featuring originals and covers of tracks from Tom Petty, The Records, Bob Dylan, and the Mickey Jupp-penned “Switchboard Susan”—a concurrent hit forNick Lowe. Produced by Pat Moran (Be Bop Deluxe, Dr. Feelgood, and Rush —yes, that Rush), it was a sonic powerhouse. That album was followed the next year by Love’s Melodies (titled Play for Today in the U.K.), with Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads, Smithereens) joining Moran as co-producer. More originals, and more covers (Big Star, John Fogerty, and others), and another great album. Both records were released multiple times in different territories, with different track lists, B-sides, and mixes. They have been unavailable for the past decade. Another Night: The Sire Recordings 1979-1981 straightens out all those matters by compiling everything onto one 2-CD set. The collection, to be released on Omnivore Recordings on December 8, 2017, features 29 tracks, including a previously unissued cover of John Hiatt’s “Ambulance Chaser.”  Nashville, TN (October 9, 2017) - Singer/songwriter Rick Monroe invites fans to sing fromtheir "Gypsy Soul," via a contest that launches today on Facebook. Recorded with friends and fellow musicians in a house in Durango, Colorado, and co-produced with Awna Teixeira (of Po Girl) and Inajah Lujan (of In/planes), Golden Colors is Rawling's first record created outside of a traditional studio. "I rented a small house and invited a handful of musical friends to co-produce and create the album," Rawling says of the experience. "I invited some very talented players and singers, everyone's in really great bands and projects. What a cast of collaborators: Awna Teixeira, Inaiah Lujan, Desirae Garcia, Fred Kosak, Chela Lujan, and Alissa Wolf. We stayed on site together, which afforded us the luxury to work long hours and create a container of intimacy, friendship, and comfortability, which are all important components of recording for me. Inaiah Lujan was on board with years of sound experience, the right equipment, and a passion for home recording. There was a great synergy in this group of people." The debut EP by Los Angeles-based band The Morning Yells, “Proper Wilted,” is a collection of five tracks, that is already getting the attention of the press, which has compared the group to luminaries such as Wilco, Fleetwood Mac, and Bruce Springsteen.
The foursome evolved earlier this year from the brother-sister duo Phil and Lu (Phil and Laura Stancil), which released its debut album Mood Rock (“True emotion and reminiscence,” said The Line of Best Fit) in late 2016. The Stancils are essentially life-long bandmates who have performed together since they were members of the family band as children. “We grew up in a family band, playing roots-rock and folk music at festivals and local watering holes throughout Michigan, where we’re originally from,” says Phil, whose warm and reedy tones define the vocals on the EP. “Our Dad taught us everything we know about music, and we fell in love with Beach Boys, America and The Moody Blues by digging through his record collection.” As The Morning Yells, the siblings are now joined by fellow multi-instrumentalists Trevor Smith andCurran McDowell. “Proper Wilted” was recorded by Mark Rains, best-known for his work with artists as diverse as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Waylon Jennings, which goes a long way towards explaining the sound ofThe Morning Yells. In the span of a mere five songs, the band adeptly covers a variety of genres, with each member easily jumping from piano, to guitar, to bass. All four contribute to the songwriting. Although a short set, “Proper Wilted” is full of highlights, notably on its lead single “She Got Time,” a track that, despite the Stancil’s assertion that it had been tossed around for years, sounds completely inspired. “It didn't find a place until The Morning Yells became a group, but it definitely is the strongest example of our style at this point,” Phil says.
