That wryly fits the theme of REVEREND HORTON HEAT’s twangy chord strumming and doo-wop drumming of ‘Hog Tyin’ Woman.’ Heath bucks up and confronts his love of the road and the love of his woman, adding “Even though this tune is a crazy little romp seemingly about bondage, it’s really just an ‘I’m true to you’ love song. It has that fun, yet psychotic vocal uttering, and a bluesy yet desperate guitar.” This weekend the band closes their six night “Revidency” at Austin’s famed Continental Club, and the Texan titans officially kick off their first leg behind Whole New Life on November 27 in Omaha, NE before wrapping up the year in Birmingham, AL on December 22. Arden, North Carolina (October 25, 2018) — Known for great songwriting and an ever-evolving modern Bluegrass sound, Chris Jones & The Night Drivers have seen noted success this fall. With several weeks at the top of the Bluegrass Todayradio charts and 2 consecutive months at #1 for their single “Bend in the Road,”written by Jones and bandmate and award winning writer Jon Weisberger, the group is back in the studio to complete the upcoming release on which this major hit will be included. Yet to be titled, and slated for a Spring 2019 release, this album promises to bring more compelling and powerful music from this top band to roots music fans. Jones tells us “We’ve been thrilled by the response to ‘Bend in the Road,’ which I guess is our little slice of bluegrass optimism. It’s one of our favorites to play while on tour, too. In mid-November, we’ll wrap up the rest of our forthcoming album, which will feature almost entirely original material, with contributions from all band members. We’re expanding the scope of our writing with this new project, and we’ll also include an ‘80s pop cover, which is uncharacteristic for us. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received.
Hailing from Toronto, LeBarons - Chris MacDonald, Megan Tilston, John Dinsmore, Casey Irvin, Evan Levy, and Po Karim - are prepping their debut full-length, Summer Of Death, on November 2nd. Taking an unhurried approach to recording, the band began work on the record in January 2017 which allowed the band to imbue each song with its own unique character resulting in a rich, complex record that reveals itself further with each listen.
Today, TDC is excited to premiere one of the album's cuts, "Brand New Sound." A driving, robust track "Brand New Sound" combines elements of rock with a bit of punk attitude and a welcome burst of ebullient horns ultimately delivering a hopeful tune that exudes a sense of promise and pure joy.
Chris MacDonald shares the story behind the song and recording process,
"I wanted to write a song that captured what I remember it feeling like to leave home as a teenager. I had discovered punk rock and was searching for something new, something other then the familiar suburban sprawl of where I lived. I wanted excitement and independence. The Humber River runs through the ravine behind my dad's house and flows in the direction that I was walking on the day I left home. I say walking, but in reality I was running from all of the turmoil in my life. The song explores the hope I felt of one day having a place of my own to write, the hope of playing in a rad band, and the hope of finding a nice girl to hang out with. The song’s about how this great unknown that I was walking into was my new home. John Dinsmore produced the track at his studio, Lincoln County Social. The recording process was really fun for me on this one. John had me playing guitar and singing while we were laying down the beds. We ended up using my scratch vocal track as the actual take because he spotted some raw energy and attitude about it that lent itself to what he was hearing in the song. John listens very intently and has a poetic sense about his producing. I really love where he takes things. Evan wrote the bridge section of the song which ultimately helped to drive the excitement of the song. Garage Rock can often look to Motown, and it was in this space that I definitely turned to for inspiration. Evan sensed this and wrote a great bridge. He really wanted to hear some horns accompany the underlying feel, so we brought in the professionals and put the horn section in. Ultimately we are pretty stoked with the outcome. It’s a scrappy track for all the rogues. It felt nice to be collaborative for sure. Everyone will take home something different when listening to a song. But my hope with this one is that it makes everyone’s pre-drinking playlist, and that they listen to it before they head out to meet good friends. I hope it gets them stoked, cause things are going to okay." Enjoy, and share, "Brand New Sound" above. They’ve become a mainstay in their adopted hometown of Baltimore, packing out the Ottobar and rocking support slots for name headliners including Greta Van Fleet, the Old 97’s, and The Ataris as well as landing the cover of the City Paper Baltimore weekly and receiving consistent spins and attention from local radio tastemakers at 89.7 WTMD in Towson, MD. With producer/engineer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) behind the board at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore, Western Star now arrive with their second full length album, Any Way How. They’ve embraced a clearer and more concise approach and Robbins’ polished production sets this record up and apart from their first. Musically the band maintains the wheelhouse established on Fireball: a garage inspired brand of hard rock with a classic feel that has nods to the Irish blues boogie of Thin Lizzy and to their heroes the Old 97’s. Lyrically the new album reveals an almost desperate determination and taps experiences of family and personal struggle and love lost that are solidified into dark but never hopeless rock’n’roll anthems. Nashville, TN (October 17, 2018)-Josh Ward has done far more in his career than make his name synonymous with “genuine country music” over the last decade. His is also one of the most recognizable names in Texas, an All-Star player whose music has become a landmark at radio with ten consecutive #1 hit singles to his credit. Add to that social media numbers that rank in the millions, a presence on both the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and the iTunes Country Chart, a robust tour schedule offering over 200 dates a year and sold out shows across the country, and you begin to see the magnitude of a burgeoning career grown organically with a root system that now has a wide lateral reach. And so, on October 26th Ward will step up to the plate in the big leagues and take his first swing with the national release of his new single “Ain’t It Baby.” This marks the second single to roll off his new album “More Than I Deserve” and the first to hit mainstream radio stations. A moonlit serenade reminiscing about stealing first base, “Ain’t It Baby” is already finding a home in major markets. It was in 2012 when Ward first hit his stride in the notorious Texas music scene with the release of his first full length album “Promises.” It was that year that radio discovered their new banner artist with three singles hitting the #1 spot on the Texas Regional radio Chart with “Hard Whiskey,” “Promises” and “Sent Me You.”“Holding Me Together” in 2015 proved yet another triumphant release with all six singles settling in to the #1 spot including the chart’s “Song of the Year” “Whiskey & Whitley,” “Highway,” “Somewhere Between Right And Wrong,” “Broken Heart,” “Change My Mind” and “You Don’t Have To Be Lonely.” His new 2018 release “More Than I Deserve” was released amassed just shy of 300,000 streams in the first few weeks of its release and debuted at #15 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart and #5 on the iTunes country albums chart. The album’s first single “All About Lovin’” fell right in line with Ward’s succession of hit singles making it an even ten #1’s. “Ain’t It Baby” will also be released to Texas radio on October 22nd. Critic’s praises call the album “next level,” “a solid, neo-traditional sound,” “powerful with spirituality-infused imagery” and ”a true country album from start to finish.” With such mass appeal and a demand for his live show, Ward’s tour schedule has expanded into a lot of new territories this year. www.joshwardmusic.com www.twitter.com/joshwardmusic www.instagram.com/joshwardmusic www.facebook.com/JoshWardMusic |
