![]() (Press Release) NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Don McLean, one of America’s greatest singer-songwriters, will continue to bring his music to stages across the world stage in 2018 with the announcement of concerts in Ireland, United Kingdom, and, of course, the United States. In addition, McLean will soon announce the release of new music. Most recently McLean rereleased his classic 'American Pie' album in celebration of its 45th anniversary in both CD and vinyl formats. The inspiration for the title track hit McLean on February 3, 1959, when a chartered aircraft crashed in Mason City, Iowa just minutes after takeoff claiming the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson – “The Big Bopper” – and the pilot, Roger Peterson. The fateful day was coined “The Day The Music Died” by Don McLean and spanned his hit “American Pie.” The song was released in 1971 and spent four weeks at No. 1 in 1972. In 2001, thirty years later, the Recording Industry of America named the it the fifth greatest song of the 20th century.

The new film directed by Cole Claassen is about the life of prolific country music songwriter Dean Dillon. The evening, hosted by Claassen, BMI and Sony ATV, began with a VIP cocktail reception followed by a short welcome from the man of the hour, Dillon, and director Claassen, who introduced the film. The intricate documentary took viewers on a journey through the life of a songwriting genius, showing his quick witted sense of humor and big heart, but most of all his integrity, both creatively and personally. Claassen met Dillon while skiing in Colorado and was captivated by his story and asked him if he would be willing to do a film project with him. Even though Dean had been approached many times in the past about a project like this, the songsmith says that something just felt right about the idea this time, and the rest is history. BMI Icon songwriter Dillon has written more than 26 #1 songs, with the majority of those recorded by his longtime friend and "king of country," the great George Strait. Dillon has also written more than 53 Top 10 songs in his storied career thus far. Extralife is the follow up to the band’s 2015 breakthrough, the highly praised Birds Say. Where Birds Say was steeped in childhood nostalgia and the loss of innocence, Extralife finds Darlingside looking to the future, mourning the loss of our world with an almost post-apocalyptic view. While the subject matter may seem bleak, Extralife is not without an underlying sense of hope and optimism. Birds Say emphatically marked the arrival of an eclectic, intelligent and dynamic band. Darlingside stretched the boundaries of traditional folk, chamber pop, baroque, progressive and indie rock by melding the various styles together and creating something not easily categorized and very much their own. The media seemed to agree as the album received positive coverage ranging from American Songwriter, Paste and Rolling Stone Country toNPR, The New Yorker, and The Huffington Post, who called it, “...one of the great albums released this year.” ![]() Watch "Cherry Thieves" Mark Olson surfaced as a songwriter of note when The Jayhawks emerged crossing post-punk with “new” country in a genre we now call ‘Americana’. Olson later formed the much loved Original Harmony Creekdippers along with a caravan of guests who were responsible for a series of truly remarkable albums including My Own Jo Ellen and Mystic Theatre. It could be said Olson’s lo-fi approach spawned a new generation of songwriters such as Iron and Wine, Bon Iver and the like. Olson re-appears after a three year hiatus accompanied by his wife and musical collaborator Ingunn Ringvold to deliver Spokeswoman of the Bright Sun. The couple live in Joshua Tree, California and the album was written and recorded at their home. From the opening song the listener is greeted by Olson’s trademark wistful vocals and Ringvold’s harmonies which create the feeling of intimacy. Now the duo are kicking off the US leg of the tour at The Chapel in San Francisco on 11/20 and they will be roaming the Pacific Northwest, The West and then landing in the Midwest to end at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago! ![]() NASHVILLE—Country Music’s biggest names kick off the holiday season with “CMA Country Christmas,” airing Monday, Nov. 27 (8-10 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.
