Percival Elliott are an indie-folk rock duo from the south coast of England. Formed by the belief that true friends can create something meaningful, Olly Hite and Samuel Carter-Brazier united to grace audiences with their poignant lyricism and neo-nostalgic melodies and have since been captivating listeners at sold-out shows across the UK.
Titled in memory of Hite’s great grandfather, Percival Elliott, born in 1883 was an inventor who created one of the first ice-cream emporiums in Brighton. After discovering a dusty box of trinkets in the back of Hite’s family attic, the untouched time capsule unveiled Percival Elliott’s mysterious inventions, engraved ice-cream paraphernalia, haunted photographs and time honoured war medals. The revelation of these long-forgotten hidden treasures became embedded within the duo’s imagination and musical creativity and thus Percival Elliott was reborn. “Forever” is the first single to be released off the duo’s upcoming album Save Your Soul. Inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley, The Beatles and Father John Misty, “Forever” is a gracefully heartfelt and atmospheric song about eternal love. Hite reveals, “Forever is about a chance meeting with someone. Sparks and butterflies, even if it’s just for a second, that feeling can last forever”. The use of yearning lyricism seamlessly blended together with Hite’s celestial vocals and Carter-Brazier’s soothing guitar, “Forever” succeeds in crafting a song of compelling honesty and authenticity. The duo are known for their signature style of hard hitting piano melodies, rhythmic guitars and retro vocal harmonies, all underpinned by a string quartet. “Forever” illustrates the band’s desire to create music that makes the hairs on your neck stand up, “We want to make the listener feel alive” Hite expresses. Percival Elliott are now ready for the next chapter of their musical endeavour with the highly anticipated release of Save Your Soul due early 2018. http://www.percivalelliott.co.uk https://www.facebook.com/PercivalElliott/ https://twitter.com/elliottpercival?lang=en

(Press Release) Declan McKenna is adding dates to his extensive 40+ date U.S. headlining tour which begins January 31stin support of his new album What Do You Think About The Car?. Various cites including Austin, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, AZ, and Santa Ana have also sold out quickly (full dates below). Tickets for the tour are on-sale now and available here. Recently, McKenna has been announced as the newly crowned BBC Music “Introducing Artist of the Year” for 2017, as part of the BBC Music Awards. Since its launch in 2007, BBC Music “Introducing” has been dedicated to discovering and supporting new music. Previous winners of this prestigious award include Florence and the Machine, Ed Sheeran, and Catfish and the Bottlemen. “I'm delighted and honoured to accept this award from BBC Introducing.” McKenna says, “I'd like to say a big thank you for relentlessly rooting for me throughout the years, no award could ever overshadow the time, effort and support given by so many others to get me to the point I'm at now, and for that I'm eternally grateful!” You can learn more about Declan McKenna and his “Introducing Artist of the Year” award here. Alongside his headlining dates, Declan McKenna will appear at area high schools in cities on this tour, for an intimate performance and Q&A with local students. McKenna will perform 3-4 songs acoustically, and talk about his journey as a young songwriter and how music and performing have shaped his life. A common theme in McKenna’s music is the role young people play in creating a more equitable society, and through these performances he hopes to empower fellow teenagers and help them realize that their voice matters and that they can create positive change, even if it can feel confusing or hopeless at first. As Declan says in a recent Billboard interview: “Quite a big part of the album is about change and being confused… a lot of the headspace I was in was trying to make sense of growing up in a world with loads of crazy things happening.” NASHVILLE, Tenn. At the end of every year, there is an abundance of “best of” lists – and with many of them we repeatedly see the same artists. That’s not to say they’re not worthy, but there is a plethora of fabulous musical stylings out there that don’t seem to get into the ears of as many people as they deserve.
While it’s impossible to listen to every album and song released, these 21 - with their well crafted story songs that key in on lyricism, melody, and a vocal delivery that is 100% believable - largely bubbled under the surface, yet hit me hard at first listen and were kept in constant rotation since their respective releases. 21. The Traveling Ones Meet Me There This Austin-based band's soothing, subtle melodies, earnest lyrics, and tender harmonies on Meet Me There glide along peacefully, and never fail to make an emotional impact and connect with the listener. 20. Emi Sunshine Ragged Dreams At thirteen years old, Sunshine is an old soul….and an incredibly talented one at that. All originals, her dreams may be ragged, but her future is shining bright. 19. Bern Kelly Lost Films Kelly gives collection of ten songs that are sonically varied, yet bonded by their detailed, meaningful narratives which play out like vivid mini-movies as you listen. 18. Drew Kennedy At Home in the Big Lonesome The well-respected Texas singer-songwriter eleven track project combines his well honed writing skills and soulful vocals with piano and strings alongside more traditional acoustic instrumentation which serves as a perfect sonic backdrop for the evocative nature of the memorable tunes. 17. Korby Lenker Thousand Springs Lenker skipped the studio and traveled the country to record in places that held special meaning to him (including his home state of Idaho) and the result is an intimate, serene album carried by Lenker's charming vocals and poignant songwriting. 16. Paul Nipper Kamikaze Heart Whether it's a 70's inspired honky-tonker, the jaunty "One of These Days," or a tender ballad ("Mama Loved Roses") this Texas singer-songwriter hits the target with timeless instrumentation and storytelling. 15. Karen and the Sorrows The Narrow Place At the center of a growing queer country scene, The Sorrows' trailblazing country centers on compelling stories of heartbreak, loss, family and more...drawing the listener in with music that touches the heart and soul regardless of orientation or gender. 14. Canyon City Constellation Paul Johnson's second full-length is a gorgeously warm, atmospheric collection of songs that envelopes the listener in thoughtful lyrics and sweeping melodies that are comforting, ethereal and universal. 13. Jeff CrosbyPostcards From Magdalena Nashville by way of Idaho and places in between, Crosby mines his travels for personal stories of heartbreak, old habits, and loss that results in his strongest outing to date. 12. Dan Mills Something Good With the rollicking “Quiet Car,” the soulful, harmony-filled title track, and the folky-acoustic (and irresistible) “Sandy,” Mills delivers a gem with his endearing vocals and honest, engaging story songs. 11. Ben Bostick (Self-Titled) California-based Bostick's eponymous full-length takes a turn to the personal with a range of thoughtful songs that strike every emotion from loss and sadness to excitement to laughter.
10. Ha Ha Tonka Heart Shaped Mountain
On their fifth outing, the Missouri-based band supplies ten indie folk-pop gems which are replete with gorgeous melodies, insanely catchy hooks, and inspiring lyricism that focuses on life's ups and downs, but in a way that makes you feel that the climb up that mountain ain't all that bad. Also....they kill it live. 9. Joshua James My Spirit Sister There's something incredibly haunting about the songs on James' latest; beautiful, elegant, and moving, they linger long after the needle stops. 8. The Mastersons Transient Lullaby The singer-songwriting couple's third outing paints a picture of a relationship and it's ups and downs in a fashion that while at times dark, is always honest, and ultimately hopeful. 7. Allison Pierce Year of the Rabbit Pierce stepped away from The Pierces to launch a new chapter in her career with this gorgeous set of Americana that is heartfelt, subtle, and timeless. 6. AJ Hobbs Too Much Is Never Enough Released in January, Hobbs delivers an album that is lyrically and sonically compelling; all the while being unabashedly honest in conveying a man’s weaknesses and strengths in a manner that is sincere, immediate, and relatable. Even though it’s only January, Too Much Is Never Enough 5. Ags Connolly Nothin’ Unexpected Connolly merges Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly and Tex-Mex ("Do You Realize That Now?") melodies with sincere lyrics full of depth and intensity in an album that shines. 4. Parker McCollum Probably Wrong Further showcasing his ability to craft honest, accessible tunes that never sacrifice storytelling and melodies for trends, McCollum is securing his spot as a distinctive voice in music who will not only forge his own path, but carry on the tradition of the respected Texas songwriters before him. 3. Robyn Ludwick This Tall To Ride Ludwick's album isn’t sunshine and roses, but it is replete with stories and characters that make you think, feel, and yes even empathize with, because underneath the broken souls, cocaine, and sex, there’s a commonality simmering through the record which is the human need to make a connection and be loved, which is something we all can relate to. 2. The Dustbowl Revival (Self-Titled) With their fifth album, the California-based octet broke their own mold, building into something fresh, funky, and (even more) fabulous without losing their ability to craft moving (and often times wonderfully sassy) story songs. They also, hands down, have the best song of 2017 in“Got Over.” If you aren’t moved by this song, check your pulse. 1. K Phillips Dirty Wonder Phillips’ record was an early contender for the top spot soon after first listen. Why? Because in a world of singer-songwriters who seem to follow a formula, Phillips forges his own path. Based on experience, observation, and imagination, the ten-track collection, replete with detailed, literate stories, clever allusions, and well-drawn characters, is further distinguished by pedal steel, fuzzy guitars, and juke-joint keys combining into a unique offering that’s astute, learned, dynamic, and often, smoldering. Other notable albums: Jade Jackson Gilded, Ned Roberts Outside My Mind, Jake La Botz Sunnyside, Charlie and the Regrets Rivers in the Streets, Bill Scorzari Through These Waves, Elijah Ocean (Self-Titled) and Chris Fullerton Epilepsy Blues Notable EPs Max Gomez Me & Joe Sam Marine Big Dark City Hugh Masterson Lost + Found Trapper Schoepp Bay Beach Amusement Park Edward + Jane As Family We Gather Butch Parnell The Fall Kat Myers and the Buzzards Owe Everybody Money David Rawlings partnered with Apple Music to create a dreamy narrative video for the GRAMMY-nominated single "Cumberland Gap." It is a wonderful and unique opportunity to salute the past, present and future of this American-bred musical style that is loved around the world. The International Blues Challenge certainly stands as the centerpiece of the Blues Foundation’s signature event. Hundreds of musicians from across America, as well as from more than a dozen other countries, come to Memphis to play their hearts out, hoping to nab top honors in the Challenge’s five performance categories: best band, best solo/duo act, best band guitarist, best solo/duo guitarist, and best harmonica player. Blurt premiered "Waste of Time." Listen HERE RALEIGH, North Carolina (Press Release) — “There was a feeling back then of promise and that you might actually make a living at music someday. I’m not sure if 6 String Drag ever expected to play any stadiums, but we thought me might make a living in an NRBQ kind of way.” — Kenny Roby, frontman for the band. When 6 String Drag first appeared on the scene in 1993, the Americana scene was still in its infancy. As one of the earliest alt-country bands of the era — a point in time at which Uncle Tupelo was winding down, Whiskeytown hadn’t yet formed, and scene bible No Depression was still a couple of years away from launching — the quartet, headed up by vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Roby and bassist Rob Keller, played a major role in eventually making the term “Americana” part of the musical lexicon. Now, with the impending arrival of a new album titled Top of the World, 6 String Drag broadens its collective purview, incorporating classic British Invasion pop, tough-as-nails ’70s rock and punk, and more. The album, due out March 9, 2018, will be available on digital, CD and vinyl Roby and Keller, along with guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Luis Rodriguez and drummer Dan Davis, plus returning producer Jason Merritt — who helmed the group’s previous record, 2015’s Roots Rock ‘N’ Roll — entered Fidelitorium Studios in Kernersville, North Carolina in March of 2017 with a straightforward plan: to capture, in Roby’s words, “performance, attitude, and emotion.”
One of the favorites here at TDC, Pedigo's Magic Pilsner (helmed by John Pedigo of The O's) ushers in the holiday with the Christmas single, "Counting Back Down." A dreamy, retro-flavored ballad, "Counting Back Down" centers around the joy the holiday instills in our hearts. Where, through the magic of the season, even those relationships that are strained or those that foster negativity, unite and look ahead with optimism, offering welcome sentiments that encourage one to perhaps, consider carrying all year through.
Pedigo's Magic Pilsner—named for a nearly-undrinkable batch of beer once brewed by Pedigo's father—seamlessly blends touches of honky-tonk piano, the sizzle of a gospel organ, a few festive brassy blasts of dixieland horns, driving drums, & acoustic and electric guitars to create an expansive and unique collection that tackles mourning with an optimism rarely found in the genre. Look for the debut album in 2018. For more information visit HERE. Listen to "Orion"HERE |
