We’ve prepared for this moment, and 2018 is the time for New Reveille to take a major step forward.” New Reveille, Amy Kamm (lead vocalist), Daniel Cook (banjo / guitar), George Hage (lead guitar), Kaitlin Grady (cello), and Autumn Brand (violin), self-released their debut album, Cannonball in 2013. They sold out their very first show at Deep South The Bar and soon were playing to standing room only crowds with their powerfully crafted songs, incredible showmanship, and eclectic live shows. They also won the prestigious American Advertising Gold Addy award for their “Babylon” video(155,000 views on YouTube) which Daniel Cook wrote and directed. The band name, New Reveille, a tribute to Cook’s military grandfather who played reveille in the mornings, could also mean a “new awakening,” which is how the band members view their signing to Loud & Proud Records, and what it means for their future. LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Cleveland, Ohio is not only the home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but the birthplace of many classic musical acts. The Choir’s first release was the acclaimed 1967 single (“It’s Cold Outside”) on Canadian-American Records (eventually picked up by Roulette). It gained them opening spots for the Who and the Yardbirds, among others, but the group eventually dissipated and morphed into other bands which would include members of The James Gang, and eventually Raspberries.” Some of the Choir’s original recordings have been complied on import EPs, various compilations, and on the expanded boxed set of Lenny Kaye’s Nuggets series, but not much is known about the band’s second wind. Until now. Artifact: The Unreleased Album, due out February 16, 2018on Omnivore Recordings, showcases ten tracks, recorded in 1969, making their first appearance anywhere. They resonate with the original Choir vibe, adding in post-British Invasion influences like Procol Harum. Recently unearthed by the late Paul Hamann, the son of Suma Recordings operator Ken Hamann, they have been lovingly restored by Tommy Allen and Ducky Carlisle, whose work has been universally lauded after their efforts for Raspberries’ Pop Art Live. Grace Basement, the acclaimed rock-and-roll side project of St. Louis folk musician, multi-instrumentalist and producer Kevin Buckley, will release their fourth full-length album, Mississippi Nights, in early 2018.
While the band’s previous effort, Wheel Within a Wheel (2013), saw Buckley turning inward with an intimate folk-based sound, Mississippi Nights takes a more bombastic approach inspired by the performances of his longtime rhythm section, drummer Jill Aboussie and bassist Greg Lamb. The title refers to the atmospheric vibe of the album along with a nod to the beloved downtown St. Louis rock club which hosted untold amounts of great bands until early 2007, when it closed its doors -- and was replaced with a casino parking lot. Mississippi Nights the album is less steeped in nostalgia and more interested in capturing the sound of everyday experiences, with each song taking on a character and narrative of its own. Ten story songs from various perspectives, united by themes of love, loss, hubris and hope with a familiar setting. (Nashville, Tenn. It's the Cowboy Way!” Too Slim, “America's Favorite Funnyman,” bass player and former second-richest-man-in-Joelton, adds, “As we head out on our 40th Anniversary Tour, it feels like we’re getting into Mick and Keith territory. A celebration of 40-years of laughing, singing, touring, and living life ‘The Cowboy Way.’ But any cowpoke will tell you, it’s not about looking back, it’s about looking ahead and wondering what’s over that next rise, that next mountain range, and we’re looking ahead with our new album, ‘40 years The Cowboy Way.’ New music, a new T-shirt, and, I promise, a new joke. We’re ready to hit the trail and I believe folks will discover that there is truly “still a little snap in the old soup bone!” December 12, 2017, Nashville, TN ... (Press Release) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member John Oates, along with his group The Good Road Band, have announced the first dates of their 2018 tour in support of his album Arkansas set for release on February 2. Tour dates: Jan 14 - Mountain Stage - Morgantown, WV Jan 15 - Club Cafe - Pittsburgh, PA Feb 5 - Joe’s Pub - New York, NY Feb 6 - World Cafe Live - Philadelphia, PA Feb 8 - Old Town School of Folk Music - Chicago, IL Feb 10 - Troubadour - West Hollywood, CA Feb 11 - Great American Music Hall - San Francisco, CA Feb 16 - Old Rock House - St. Louis, MO The project originally began as a tribute to Oates’ idol, Mississippi John Hurt. During a series of Nashville recording sessions, it evolved organically to become a unique collection drawing from a wide range of Oates’ musical influences. Asked about the style and sound of Arkansas, John says, “It’s like Dixieland, dipped in bluegrass, and salted with Delta blues.” His first project for Thirty Tigers, Arkansas is available for advance order through e-retailers and a Pledge Music campaign including autographed vinyl, limited edition exclusives, hats, shirts, and more. Recorded at Addiction Studios in Nashville, the album was produced by Oates and David Kalmusky. Oates teamed with an amazing group of accomplished and rising stars in the Americana music world, "The Good Road Band". The impressive lineup on the record consists of Sam Bush on mandolin, Russ Pahl on pedal steel, Guthrie Trapp on electric guitar, Steve Mackey on bass, Nathaniel Smith on cello, and Josh Day on drums and percussion. With this incredible band, Oates shines a light on music from America’s past long before the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. Walter Martin (co-writer/multi-instrumentalist of The Walkmen) will release his new album Reminisce Bar & Grill on February 16th via Ile Flottante Music. His fourth solo record since The Walkmen's hiatus in 2013, Reminisce Bar & Grill was announced earlier this month with a surprise appearance on NPR Music's Tiny Desk in which he performed two of his new songs with a full band and a barbershop quartet. Today, he unveiled another new song from the record titled "I Can Run Now From The Hellhounds But I Can't Hide." Listen to "I Can Run Now From The Hellhounds But I Can't Hide" HERE. "Jaunty guitars, whistling flutes, and rippling cymbals evoke a sunlit, slightly scuzzy beachside dive. There, Martin recalls an 'emotional run' (despite only running 'about once a month these days') that served to remind him 'we've only got one body,'" described Consequence of Sound. "All told, the song is likely to be one of the more upbeat musings you'll hear about the fear of impending death." Reminisce Bar & Grill is one that might throw fans of his two award winning kids' records (2014's We're All Young Together and 2017's My Kinda Music) for a loop. Listeners will still recognize the same affable narrator and quirky musical style as his previous solo work, but here the subject matter is shifted dramatically. With frankness and poignancy, Martin, now a 43-year-old married man with two young children, squarely tackles the subject of adulthood - specifically, his own. Canyon City Celebrates the Season with mashup of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “Hallelujah"12/14/2017
Just in time for the holidays, Canyon City recently released a mashup of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “Hallelujah,” featuring fellow Nashville artist Betsy Phillips.
Canyon City’s Paul Johnson says of the tune: “My goal was to create an intimately simple rendition of two great, classic songs that showcases their emotion. It feels very 'holidays in Tennessee' to me, in that the emphasis is on the relational and festive magic of the season, maybe in part driven by my not-so-snowy hometown of Nashville. I also lucked out in getting to work with Betsy Phillips’ incredible voice on this track; there’s an authentic quality to it that I feel really drives home the heart of the music and season.” The song is also available on Apple Music and iTunes. In early 2018, Canyon City will release the official music video for his song “Find You,” off of the new album Constellation. Find out more HERE. Nashville, Tenn.
