Listen to “If You Left Me” here. Remember Me is a testament to the influence of the music from Chuck Auerbach’s youth, and showcases his innate ability to convey the stories of his well-lived life through songs. A collaborative effort with his son Dan Auerbach, who also produced the record, Remember Me features some of Nashville’s finest musicians, including Kenny Vaughn and Dave Roe. Said Dan Auerbach about working with his father on this project: “After getting so much help over the years from my dad I was happy to lend a hand in the making of this record and return the favor.” The album is available for purchase here as well as at your local indie record store and on Amazon. Recently, Chuck Auerbach debuted the music video for “My Old Man,” the first single from Remember Me, via UPROXX who call his song “a roughshod, but elegant meditation about his own father.” The music video traces the Auerbach family history through song as well as archival photos and David Fricke of Rolling Stone calls the song a “memory lane of plaintive grown and upright bass.” Said Chuck Auerbach about the song: “Being with my dad at the end of his life was one of the hardest, and sweetest things I’ve had to do. It took me 18 years to digest, and then I wrote “My Old Man.” Watch it here via UPROXX.
Chuck Auerbach’s life has been heavily influenced by music from a very young age, but it wasn’t until he began working with the legendary Nashville guitarist Kenny Vaughan in 2014 that the idea of recording an album and performing ever crossed his mind. As the father of Dan Auerbach, he had been writing music for quite some time, earning him writing credits on The Black Keys’ Thickfreakness and Dan’s first solo album, Keep It Hid. Bands from his native Akron, Ohio had also been using his lyrics for years, so it seemed natural for Chuck to step into the studio and record them, even if it was at a later age than most. Chuck’s debut album, Remember Me, was recorded initially at the legendary Butcher Shoppe Studio in Nashville, then finalized at Dan’s studio, Easy Eye Sound. Dan put together a remarkable who’s who of Nashville session players including Dave Roe (Bass), Bobby Emmett (Keyboards), Pete Abbott (Drums), Kenny, Dante Schwebel (Guitars), Russ Pahl (Pedal Steel), Richard Swift (Background Drums, Background Vocals and Keyboards), and Sean Sullivan (Engineer). Dan himself stepped in with additional guitars and production. The album, as summarized by David Fricke, showcases “country ballads and earthy R&B in a grizzled voice that suggested Tom Waits with a dash of the singer from Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show (the one without the eye patch).”Now at the age of 68, Chuck Auerbach is finally ready to step into the spotlight.
