Corey Smith Launches Veterans Day Fundraiser Campaign with PledgeMusic for World War II Foundation11/11/2015 Nashville, TN (November 11, 2015. Press Release) – Singer-songwriter and musician Corey Smith has launched a Veterans Day fundraiser campaign with PledgeMusic to benefit the World War II Foundation. Smith’s song, "My Time (In Memory of Major Gause),” which he wrote about a WWII hero from his hometown of Jefferson, GA, will be available on PledgeMusic for the remainder of this week.www.pledgemusic.com/projects/coreysmith The World War II Foundation is one of the nation’s leading non-profit organizations committed to educating future generations about the enormous sacrifices and achievements of 16 million Americans who served in WWII. The goal of their foundation is to preserve the individual experiences of those who witnessed the most devastating conflict known to man and to hopefully, pass on the lessons learned from World War II to a new generation. They also seek, through educational outreach, to honor those who showed great examples of dedication, sacrifice and courage during one of the most horrific time periods in history. Smith has been working with the WWII Foundation for the better part of two years on a documentary film called “War Journal: The Incredible World War II Escape of Major Damon 'Rocky' Gause.” Major Gause was from Smith’s hometown of Jefferson, GA and his story is an astounding tale of survival and heroism during WWII. Smith read his war journal when he was a teenager and jumped at the opportunity to be involved with the film, helping with the fundraising and music. He wrote the song "My Time (In Memory of Major Gause)" featured at the end of the documentary and scored music for a few other segments in the film. On Sunday, November 8, the documentary had its world premiere in Jefferson. The capacity crowd was treated to a special performance of the song by Smith prior to the showing of the film. PBS has received a gratis license to broadcast all of the WWII Foundation’s films including "War Journal: The Incredible World War II Escape of Major Damon 'Rocky' Gause," which is scheduled to air in the spring of 2016.
Smith says, “As a former Social Studies teacher and the grandson of a proud WWII veteran, I support the mission of the World War II Foundation wholeheartedly. With so many members of what Tom Brokaw called our "Greatest Generation" passing away every day, I believe preserving their stories of selfless service and sacrifice is of utmost importance. Working with the WWII Foundation on this documentary has been one of the biggest honors of my career. For me, it was not only about paying tribute to Major Gause, but all the brave men and women who have served our country during times of hardship. On this Veterans Day, I hope people will pause and give thanks for all those who have served, both then and now."
