![]() ASHEVILLE, NC (April 12, 2017 Press Release) Refuge means different things to different people but to NC native Aaron Burdett it means playing music. His latest album, Refuge, tells the story of a working man's life in the heart of the North Carolina mountains, where fierce independence and self-sufficiency co-exist with a strong sense of family and community. Aaron's music doesn't exist in the past, but is rather a modern-day storytelling of how southern Appalachian mountain culture, and the people who hold onto it, struggle to survive in today's fast-paced world. Available at Organic, iTunes, and Amazon. For more on the artist, visit: www.aaronburdett.com Who doesn’t like to see the good guy finish first? Taking a leap of faith Aaron went all in on his latest album Refuge. This marks his seventh album and his third with Organic Records. Digging deep for relatable and personal lyrics, heartbreaking beautiful melodies, bending genres from Americana, folk-rock, bluegrass, blues and country - this is a glimpse of who he is. His production ranges from stripped down to raucous. Aaron can turn a phrase with the best and his voice will stand the test of time as one of the most distinctive to come from NC. Moving back and forth between bare-bones-acoustic and full electric band treatments, Burdett’s style is not quite folk, not quite country or rock but rather the amalgamation of the best of these genres. This is not so much an intention as it is simply the result of his own originality, combined with southern musical influences and his ability to dive into deep emotional wells that give complex clarity to his characters.
Refuge pays homage to cleverly-crafted songs; and as a family man, Burdett’s writing reflects the struggles of modern life, teetering between carpool and the stage. “Last Refuge” captures Burdett’s soulful textured vocals, and at least two songs, “It’s a Living” and “Another Nail in the Coffin,” are arguably songs you would hear on any top 40 country radio station, “Pennies on the Tracks” and “Looking for Light” are hauntingly beautiful bluegrass-tinged folk-tales. It is clear that after six albums Burdett is an artistic force to be reckoned with. Aaron Burdett’s Refuge offers an alleviation, a comfort, a higher ground and maybe even a remedy for those who still love music that is emotionally charged, vulnerable, and real. "I have spent many, many hours in the studio with Aaron, and his music thrills me as much at the end of the session as it does at the beginning. That is a rare thing. Sometimes I feel that he's writing songs directly for me, that's how personal his songs are. Just a great talent." --Tim Surrett, Balsam Range Tracks Pennies on the Tracks It’s a Living Looking for Light Last Refuge Rock and Roll Another Nail in the Coffin A Couple Broken Windows Poor Man Thieves and Charlatans Wolves at the Door Vocals, Guitar / Aaron Burdett Lap Steel / Jackson Dulaney Bass / Jeff Hinkle Drums / James Kylen Don’t miss the opportunity to see him live when he goes on tour this summer in support of the new album.
