![]() SAN DIEGO, CA (Press Release) – Ever since Dannie Marie memorized every song on the Britney Spears CD she got in a McDonald’s Happy Meal when she was six, she dreamed of the day she could release her own record. That day is June 16 – when the small town SoCal pop country artist with a DIY work ethic will release her new CD Anything I Wanna Be on iTunes, Spotify, and other digital retailers. Featuring nine original songs that showcase her brand of “bro country with a dose of estrogen,” the album was recorded in Nashville with some of Music City’s top studio and touring musicians. KWCK Program Director Heath Shelby, who spins Dannie Marie’s singles Anything I Wanna Be and Countin’ Down Summertime on his country station in Arkansas, says, “She is an incredible talent with a great songwriting ability.” The tracks on the pop country album include love songs, breakup songs, a sassy cheating song (a prerequisite for every country singer!), a bridal song that has played at weddings from Idaho to Australia, and a fun summer anthem that WLX Music Director Kenny Beckman says is “the perfect soundtrack to any summertime play list.” The title track of the album Anything I Wanna Be features banjo and a catchy chorus and was written while Dannie Marie was working as an aspiring actress. She shares her struggles with Hollywood’s unrealistic and superficial standards for beauty and success, and encourages others to follow their dreams with her lyrics “All the doors been shut / Locked without keys / Been flat on my face/ And down on my knees / Dear Hollywood, one day you’ll see / I am ANYTHING I WANNA BE.” (Official Lyric Video)
The overall vibe of the album is fun and upbeat, and sounds like a mix of Kelsea Ballerini and Florida Georgia Line. Two of the tracks were previously released as singles to country radio via the digital distributor Play MPE and got airplay in the US, Canada, and the UK. Since then, Dannie Marie has toured in 12 states (see radio tour video) to perform her music at more than 40 country radio stations (with her younger brother Nick backing her on acoustic guitar); released a music video for Countin' Down Summertime that had its world premiere at a San Diego film festival; played at Arizona’s Country Thunder on the same stage where Chris Janson (Buy Me A Boat) got his start; and had two singles reported on the Music Row Chart – quite a feat for an unsigned artist without a radio promoter.
