Nashville, TN (November 23, 2015 Press Release) - HONEYHONEY is wrapping up a fantastic 2015, with the release of their third studio album, 3, and successful North American tour. Now the band is looking ahead to 2016, and January gigs opening up for indie rocker and label mate JD McPherson as well as some more headlining shows of their own continuing into next year. 3, which was produced by Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson) was released in June to critical acclaim. Rolling Stone Country’s Andrew Leahey wrote, “Recorded at the tail end of their two-year stay in Nashville, HONEYHONEY's third album finds the duo mixing the stomp of Americana with the swagger of indie rock. Suzanne Santo has never sounded better, her voice alternating between the husky huffs of a soul singer and the ballsy acrobatics of a bar band frontwoman who's slammed just enough shots to convince her to try all of those difficult runs. Matching her pace are bandmate Ben Jaffe — the calm, steady anchor to Santo's stormy seas — and producer Dave Cobb, who keeps the mood raw and rough-edged by capturing everything in a handful of first takes.” Thom Jurek notes in AllMusic, “The duo's songwriting on 3 is tighter. There are more hooks, but melodies and lyrics are really close to the bone, leaving room for experimentation and the depth of emotional resonance. Cobb pushed HONEYHONEY just enough. He reveals the sophistication in the songs along with newer sounds and textures. But he also reined in any perfectionist tendencies that would distract from the intensity in their performances. As a result, 3 is a full step up both creatively and musically.”
HONEYHONEY recently released their video for “Sweet Thing.” The self-directed video stars “Freaks & Geeks” alum Dave "Gruber" Allen, who has worked with the band in the past on their song "Little Toy Gun.” The video features a mix of ASL, dance and mime shot over a three hour period at Salt Lake City’s the State Room. Ben Jaffe says of Allen, “We love him and his comedy, it’s really been pretty important to us for awhile. From his stuff in 'Freaks and Geeks' to all the live stuff of his we've seen, we've been stealing his ideas for a long time.” Up next HONEYHONEY will hit the road for a west coast tour with label mate JD McPherson in January, including stops in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and their hometown of Los Angeles before continuing with their own headlining dates in February and March.
