"Nail’s sound is superbly profound, dancing along the lines of Ryan Bingham and a Stetson-clad Beck." Elmore Magazine Austin, Texas -- A little over a decade ago, molded by a family of ranchers and fine art purveyors, and the untamed landscape and starry night skies of his hometown of Albany, Texas, Jeremy Nail travelled 200 miles south from Albany to Austin, bringing his dust-rattled heart and alt-country-roots-rockin’ soul to the scene. It didn’t take long before he found kindred spirits, playing guitar and writing songs with the likes of Dustin Welch, The Sideshow Tragedy and Liars and Saints (with Johnny Goudie and Kacy Crowley). Nail’s debut album Letter (2008) was hailed by the Austin Chronicle as “a diverse, gripping listen, one that's centered around his ability to capture waking moments with intensity.” Jeremy’s journey took him from late nights in murky bars and honky-tonks to Gruene Hall, and eventually led to him playing guitar for rock icon, Alejandro Escovedo. After playing one concert together in 2013, Escovedo asked Nail to join him on his upcoming world tour. Shortly thereafter, however, Jeremy was diagnosed with Sarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer that had mysteriously wrapped around his left leg, putting his career and his life on hold. After radiation and much treatment, they had no choice but to amputate his leg.
Nail not only had to relearn to walk with a prosthetic, but would also learn to rediscover his dreams. Fatefully Escovedo's and Nail’s paths crossed again after a gig one night in 2015. Alejandro took Jeremy under his wing, mentoring him to develop his new songs, and producing his new record, My Mountain. Alejandro says, "What attracted me the most to Jeremy and his songs was his honesty and unflinching awareness of the truth. His songs capture in a very poetic way the essence of life and the reality of mortality. In his songs I hear a sense of purpose to live a full and joyous life regardless of any detours that life can throw you. This is the music of a survivor. Jeremy was nothing less than a joy to work with and it was a complete honor to be able to help Jeremy see his vision come to fruition." The eleven songs on My Mountain navigate a deeply intimate and emotional terrain in facing life's challenges. On many of these tunes (“Survive”, “Brave”, “Tell Me What Else You Got”, “Dreams”), Nail confronts his obstacles and setbacks straight on with grit and gratitude. He declares: “Gonna climb my mountain, it’s about time, just sit back and watch me walk this crooked line”. Watch video here: http://www.elmoremagazine.com/2016/03/music-news/take-a-furtive-journey-with-jeremy-nails-latest-video With songs such as “Calling All Cars” and “The Great Mystery” Jeremy lets the listener bring their own story to the table, drawing them in with such poetical ease: “Every breath that you are breathing is a river to the sea Out from behimd the garden wall is a revealing of great mystery” Nail and Escovedo connect the dots along every turn of the trail, sans bells and whistles, with a stalwart crew of musicians in tow. Inspired undoubtedly by the shared health struggles and life experiences of this artist and his producer, the subtle intimate aesthetic of My Mountain reflects a spiritual grace driven by the power of creativity, friendship, honesty and healing. It is a sound fueled by the indelible beauty of those starry night skies and the vast open country of Texas. Jeremy Nail (vocals, acoustic guitar)’s My Mountain was recorded with a cast of some of Austin's finest musicians including Chris Masterson (electric guitar), Eleanor Whitmore (violin, vocals), Bobby Daniel (upright bass), Chris Searles (drums), Dana Falconberry and Jazz Mills (guest vocalists). Mixed by the multiple Grammy Award winner Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Dixie Chicks, Johnny Cash, The Jayhawks) at PLYRS Studio and mastered by the 5-time Grammy Award winner Richard Dodd (Dixie Chicks, Delbert McClinton, Tom Petty). All songs were written by Jeremy Nail except “Down to the Ocean” (Jeremy Nail/Alejandro Escovedo).
