LISTEN HERE (Los Angeles, CA) - Left Hand Lions is proud to share heartfelt new single “California Flames” today, October 1st. “California Flames” is a song about wildfires, particularly the Thomas Fire that devastated the Ventura and Santa Barbara County areas. It was the largest fire in California history at the time. Left Hand Lions founder and frontman, Thomas Hopkins, was evacuated out of his home, as well as the entire city of Santa Barbara. "I wanted to write a song that illustrated the experience of living through a wildfire. I remember people wearing respirators out on the street, a blood-red sun bearing down, and smoke so dense that you couldn't see more than 50 feet ahead of you. But while It was a harrowing experience, it was also exciting. This song plays at both of these emotions" - Thomas Hopkins Left Hand Lions is the brainchild of Thomas Hopkins – a Santa Barbara transplant who’s coined the term Wild Americana. It’s easy to hear the wild factor with Hopkins’s booming left-handed 12-string guitar and roaring vocals. There’s a rock edge to the sound, but it’s beautifully reeled in by the wooded, acoustic instrumentation. It’s smoky, but smooth and flavorful, like an aged whiskey.
Pulling inspiration from the world around him, Thomas Hopkins finds beauty in telling stories of now, whether they be tales of love, lust, love lost, or even a Western throwback. His melodies are infectious and his songwriting is inviting and relatable, just like he is on stage. Left Hand Lions is rounded out by William Adams on lead guitar and Dylan Carmody on cajón whilst on the road. The trio have established themselves along California’s Central Coast, performing at any opportunity. Born out of a love for Americana music, Left Hand Lions strives to deliver thought-provoking lyricism and toe-tapping beats. These flavors give Hopkins the flair of Wild Americana – it’s free-wheeling and having a great time, while delivering real musicianship. Left Hand Lions will be releasing more music throughout the year and are slated to announce an album release in the near future. Look out for more from Thomas Hopkins this Fall.
