![]() Record Store Day, conceived in 2007 as a way to celebrate the local independently owned record store, is right around the corner on April 16th. This year the extremely cool list of limited edition releases includes the long-awaited, 40th Anniversary vinyl reissue of one of the most heralded albums in Bluegrass: J.D. Crowe & the New South. Touted as "the best most revolutionary bluegrass album to date" by Alison Krauss, J.D. Crowe & the New South (commonly referred to by its catalog number, “Rounder 0044”), has long been one of the genre’s most influential and acclaimed albums. To celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary, Rounder Records has put together a special vinyl reissue that includes two bonus tracks and extensive liner notes, based on new interviews with J.D. Crowe, Jerry Douglas, Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs and Bobby Slone. It also features the infamous “flipping the bird” cover photo, which has not been seen since 1975. J.D. Crowe & the New South will be available in very limited quantities, exclusively for Record Store Day on April 16th, 2016.
