Song Premiere: Alex Dunn "Colorado Line"

On his debut LP Scattered Poems (11.16), Alex Dunn stakes his claim as the latest in a long line of hard-worn men and women making American music in the northernmost port of Seattle. Written over the past five to six years, primarily in the quiet moments on a commercial fishing vessel in Alaskan waters, Scattered Poems is filled with reflections on the many iterations of that primary emotion: love. “As cliché as it may sound, the overarching theme of this record is love” says Dunn. “Each song might be its own story, but it always comes down to love; love for my mother, for my grandmother, love for my family. Love for lovers, unrequited love, and love purely for this simple chance at existence.  As my mother always said, ‘to love and be loved is all there really is’ (which is now engraved on my guitar strap.)”  
 
Today, TDC is honored to share the premiere of "Colorado Line" whose charming acoustic introduction leads into a banjo and fiddle led sentimental tale of love and atonement that chugs onward with a sweetly noble intention, propelled by love and redemption. 

"I find myself at the end of the day staring out the window of the car
I don't know the man behind the wheel, but he said he'd take me far
I don't care as long as we make the Colorado Line by night
​That'll give me time to prepare myself for a fight I must fight"

​Dunn shares the story behind the song,
"A few years ago, I was driving home to Fort Collins, Colorado to see my family and friends late one afternoon, after spending a long winter alone in southern Wyoming.  As the spring sun was setting behind me, out above the Snowy Range, I was filled with the excitement of anticipation.  I was starving for human interaction, for connection.  I pulled over to watch the dying light fade across the vast rolling plains towards the Colorado border and these feelings began to manifest themselves in the lyrics of this song.  I quickly had the words and melody of a tale of love, yearning, and redemption.  All the while home I sang Colorado Line over and over and I could hear the faint nostalgia of fiddle and banjo, with rolling drums and bass carrying me forward."
