Hailing from Austin, The Merles - Todd Deatherage, Derek Tarnow, Loren Tarnow, Phil Spencer, and Matt Winegardner - are a classic country/western swing band whose debut album, Hate To Say Goodbye, which features guest spots from Basil McJagger (The Derailers), Geoff Queen (Hayes Carll), Eddie Dickerson (Curtis Grimes), and Michael St. Clair (Polyphonic Spree), is due February 10th. The project, which contains 14 original songs about heartache, love lost, honky-tonks, and drinking, was recorded and engineered by Britton Beisenhertz at Ramble Creek Studios in Austin and produced by Beisenhertz and The Merles. The Merles are giving listeners a sneak peek at one of the tracks, "Room 242," a nostalgic waltz that recalls a lost love that lives on in the past in a hotel room in Dallas. Listen to "Room 242" in its entirety below.
