![]() Nashville recording artist Beth Beighey recently released her debut single, “Just Another Heartache," a self-penned ballad that portrays both the deep emotion one experiences and strength one finds after the dissolution of a relationship. Beighey kindly took the time to speak about her roots, the song, and its video, her first ever, which The Daily Country is proud to premiere below. “Just Another Heartache” is your debut single, yet you have been pursuing music for quite some time. My mom was a singer-songwriter so I think music was in my blood. My first time on stage was at a talent show when I was five years old and when I was ten or eleven, I knew music was what I wanted to do. I started writing poetry at eleven or twelve, but didn’t pick up the guitar until I was in my 20’s, even though we had instruments in the house. After high school, I moved to Florida and studied music at Gulf Coast State College where I dual majored in vocal performance and record production technology. After spending years honing my craft, I eventually started playing shows from Florida to Michigan, where I’m originally from, and places in between. I kept stopping in Nashville and finally said I just need to be there - and that was four and a half years ago, now. Did your music always have that country-pop lean?
I listen to literally all types of music, and the songs on the EP all have different influences including pop, country, bluegrass and R&B. Right now, I’m unsigned, so the only opinions that matter are my producer Matt Geroux's and mine, so recording this EP has been a really special experience for me because I'm able to create each song exactly how I envision it and let them fit wherever they fit. The new song, “Just Another Heartache” is just a terrific track that makes me incredibly emotional. What’s the story behind the song? I wrote the song almost a year ago; it was a few days before Christmas and I was going through a breakup. As you can imagine, the Christmas breakup was pretty horrible and depressing, but the friend's house I was staying in had a piano. The night I officially moved out, I sat down at that piano and the song just poured out of me in an hour or two. Writing it was so liberating and left me being able to say, ‘Hey, I wrote a really great one.’ I love it because even though it is so emotional, it really also conveys a sense of female strength. Totally and that’s exactly what my producer, Chris M. Stanton, was going for, especially in the music video. Chris is so amazing and being able to work with him is one of the best things that has happened to me this past year. As you mentioned, you and Chris worked together on the video for the song. Was it a collaborative process? There were definitely visions I had for the video, but I let Chris take the lead because I know that’s where his expertise is and I trust him completely. We filmed the video in a town in Illinois and it really brought the song to life. Making the video was the most creative experience I have ever had and I’m just so excited with how it turned out. It’s the cherry on top of everything. Will this song be a part of the upcoming EP you spoke about? Yes, it will. I am in the middle of recording my first EP and even though it’s been a long time coming I am happy I waited because it feels perfect. The EP will be either five or six tracks, including the title track, Wild, and we are shooting for a release date in late February or early March. You have supported artists like CCR and BBS, do you play out often? I play in Nashville four to five days a week. I play in Florida a lot too - really, anywhere I can. The past couple of years I have toured in Switzerland for weeks at a time and I will be returning there in February and July, and then again in August to play a ten-day festival. Every time I’m there I’m getting more work and growing a fan base, which just blows my mind. It's becoming one of my favorite places, not to mention the Swiss definitely appreciate the music and the fact that America is for dreamers. Finally, since 2017 is just beginning, is there anything you want to accomplish this year? Releasing the EP is something I have dreamed about my whole life and now that it’s finally here – well, it brings me to tears when I talk about it. I’m just really excited! While I worked in Downtown Nashville, I had the pleasure, several times a week, to witness the raw hypnotic power of Beth's beautiful soul and her voice. She always managed to bring in a crowd even when other could not do the same.
