Nashville singer-songwriter Will Hoge has premeired "Little Bit Of Rust" with Rolling Stone Country. It's the debut single from Hoge's 11th studio album Anchors, out August 11th via Thirty Tigers. The song features multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin (Jack White, Beck) on mandolin, and guest vocals from Sheryl Crow. "I'd always wanted a female vocal for this song because I felt like the 'we' in the chorus is important," says Hoge. "Nobody fixes a relationship on their own. I felt like it deserved this strong female presence, and Sheryl's just one of the greatest singers I've ever heard. Having her on the track breathed a whole new life into the song, and it's one of my favorite things I've ever done." Listen to "Little Bit of Rust" HERE In 2012, Eli Young Band had a #1 hit on the Billboard Country chart with their recording of Hoge's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart." The single went Platinum, earning Hoge nominations at the CMA, ACM, and GRAMMY Awards, where the track was up for Country Song of the Year. The wider world took notice of what those paying attention to Hoge had known for a decade, and soon he was performing everywhere from the Grand Ole Opry to The Late Show with David Letterman. His music was used for a high-profile Chevy truck campaign, and he signed a major publishing deal.
After awhile, Hoge began to feel burnt out by the demands of the music industry. He let his band go and spent a year playing solo shows, crisscrossing the country by himself with just a guitar and a keyboard. Feeling rejuvinated by the freedom, he began writing material that reenergized him, and made him feel like a kid falling in love with rock and roll all over again. Those songs ignited a dormant flame somewhere deep within his soul, and now they form the bulk of Anchors, his strongest and most nuanced album to date. According to Rolling Stone Country, "The eleven self-produced tracks on Anchors are rooted in youthful jubilance but tell the stories of grown men and women who have seen, loved, moved on and made amend. They're about adults who struggle and fight, not thirty-year-olds who linger in extended adolescence, pretending romance still bubbles as easily as it did back on the bleachers. Songs like the acoustic-led country weeper 'Angels Wings' and the Tom Petty-esque closer 'Young As We Will Ever Be' that contemplates the constant drip of time, are all dedicated to that which makes us human."
