NASHVILLE, TN (April 27, 2015) – In its fifth consecutive year, Women Rock For The Cure™(WRFTC) has set the 2015 date for their annual Young Survivors Retreat, a relaxing weekend aimed to connect young women survivors and those fighting breast cancer to stand together in their journey. The four-day, impactful event will be held September 24th through September 27th, at Deer Run Retreat Center, located just outside of Nashville (3845 Perkins Road Thompson’s Station, TN 37179). The all-expense paid experience is open to around 20 women currently undergoing treatment or survivors of breast cancer who have been diagnosed between the ages of 18-40 years.
Approximately five percent of breast cancers occur in women under the age of 40. These women – college students, young professionals, new moms – often struggle with finding support and education due to the rarity of this diagnosis at a young age. While friends are launching their careers and starting families, surviving is suddenly the new priority. WRFTC developed the Young Survivors Retreat as a way for these women to connect and help support each other in their healing process with peers who can relate. Jensen Sussman, WRFTC CEO, shares her personal experience with the retreat, “Having to face breast cancer as a young woman is physically, emotionally and mentally challenging. For WRFTC to bring together these women from all across the country who share in the same struggles and see how their connection forms a sisterhood of hope is inspiring.” The Young Survivors Retreat is an opportunity for attendees to discuss their stories and age-related challenges while making life-long new friends, all in a safe, welcoming environment. Activities include sessions on art, relaxation, nutrition, fertility, relationships and beauty tips. Throughout the year, WRFTC raises funds for The Retreat including at their signature event – Opry Goes Pink. Thanks to the success of Opry Goes Pink and the organization’s generous supporters, WRFTC covers ALL travel expenses to and from Nashville for Young Survivor attendees. Limited space is available and applications will be accepted beginning Friday, May 1st at 9A CST through Monday, May 4th at 5P CST, via an online application at www.WomenRockForTheCure.org.
