AUSTIN, TEXAS — With Chuck Shaw’s debut single release, traditional country music finds its newest champion. The golden-voiced singer/songwriter draws from multiple influences on “Burn That Oil,” with lyrics that celebrate friends and loves from years past, a driving dance-floor backbeat and a Lone Star feel with just a touch of Springsteen to recall Shaw’s New Jersey roots. “I’ve always loved songs that deal with teenage nostalgia,” Shaw says. “One of my favorite things to do is grab a few drinks with my high school and college buddies and reminisce about the good old days. I know people out there will be able to relate.” A proud Texas resident after years of growing up, working and playing music on the East Coast, in the mountains of Colorado, countless hours of performing in fabled Nashville honky-tonks and ranch work in Wyoming, Shaw channels his varied experiences into an old-school aesthetic built on a foundation of George Strait, Merle Haggard, George Jones and other country legends. “Burn That Oil” heralds the upcoming release of Shaw’s self-titled debut album, scheduled to release in February 2019. Jada Vance considers her new single, “Rear View Revival,” something of a personal anthem. The singer/songwriter has been through a rough spell these past few years, from bullying in high school, bad relationships and her father’s shocking suicide due to drug abuse. Although “Rear View Revival” is not specifically about those issues, it is her way of dealing with the past in a positive way. “It talks about putting your hands in the air and leaving the bad stuff behind,” Vance said. “I’ve had to hit my knees several times and pray to God that he will help me move forward.” Her AmericanaFest show acclaimed as one of the week’s highlights, Barnett prepares to take new music on the road. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mandy Barnett laughs when she’s asked “What took you so long?” to make Strange Conversation, her progressive take on the postmodern American songbook. It was released today, September 21, 2018, on Dame Productions via Thirty Tigers. Sure, she’s a classicist who’s channeled Patsy Cline in a theatrical musical, recorded classic country songs with legendary producer Owen Bradley, and transfixed known musicos Seymour Stein, Arif Mardin and Ahmet Ertegun with her timeless stylings. But Barnett, who signed her first major label deal at age 12, decided she needed a change. The pair recorded both a country and a bluegrass version at Creative Workshop Studios in Nashville, singing about flying possums that fill in for Santa’s reindeer, after Rudolph comes down with the flu. “The concept may seem silly, but it’s so clever,” EmiSunshine said. “It’s informative and funny at the same time. Who knew possums had 50 teeth!” “When we were in the studio, I felt like I had gone back in time and was singing with a 14-year-old Dolly Parton,” Smith said. “Emi has that kind of voice, that caliber of talent, and such a sparkling personality.” Aaron Troyer has been writing and releasing music for well over a decade and recently he released the debut single from his latest project, The Blue Winter. "Alive" is an artisanal slice of folk-rock served on a bed of organic instruments with rich, soaring vocals that will make you forget that summer is quickly slipping away. The track's sincere words come from a place of pining, that feeling of being in a relationship where things have gone stale and wishing you could go back to a time when things were better; when you felt “Alive.” (Press Release) Hush Kids, the new collaboration between Nashville veterans Jill Andrews and Peter Groenwald, will release their self-titled debut album on October 26th via Tone Tree Music. Produced by Ian Fitchuk (of recent Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour success), Hush Kids journeys across the unexpected, the strangeness of love rather than the sweetness, and the beauty of the world rather than the delirium. Today they released their new single "What's Your Hurry," debuted by Billboard, which they described as "a song about chilling the hell out." Listen to "What's Your Hurry" HERE. Stream via Spotify and Apple Music. "It's always easy to write the heartbreak or the sad songs; It's not always easy to write a feel-good, cruisin' down the highway song, and that's what we were trying to do, something easy breezy," Groenwald told Billboard. Andrews added, "We were thinking about the idyllic kind of living, where you can sit back and hang with the world that's around you and be with people who are around you, and your families, It's kind of a wake-up call to ourselves about that." |
