Emerging artist Brett Staggs will release his new EP, Nothing Bad Ever Happens To Me, on October 7th. Staggs, who is originally from Pennsylvania, spent a short stint in Austin as a drummer/backup vocalist before returning to PA where he was inspired to write and perform as a solo artist. His influences, which include The Traveling Wilburys, The Clash, and Dylan, as well as Petty and Cash, impacted his new project which puts forth sincerity and wit in four self-penned tunes. Things kick off with the rocker of a title track which features heavy electric guitars, a catchy hook, and crafty lyrics. That's followed by the rollicking, edgy "Shovelin'", the roots rocker "Home is Where The Party Is", and the dramatic "Love In My Heart (Hell in My Soul)." Give it a listen.

-Tara Prepare your ears for a sonic delight with MarchFourth’s fourth studio album, Magic Number, which was released on September 30th. Recorded in New Orleans over ten days at The Parlor Recording Studio with producer Ben Ellman (Galactic) and engineer/producer Mikael “Count” Eldridge (Tycho, Trombone Shorty), Magic Number is a groove filled, full throttle explosion of swagger, funk, and joy. Whether the song is an instrumental (opener “Call To Action”) or includes a vocal (the soulfully hip title track), there is an electricity pulsing through each note and an undeniable sense of exhilaration emanating from the (fifteen or so) players that is downright infectious. In addition to those regulars, the album features guest spots from percussionist Stanton Moore on the funky “Push It Back” and Trombone Shorty, whose solo ignites the sensational “Inventing The Wheel.” The album also includes the R&B flared “Hotstepper,” the vibrant can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head “Drunk Bears” and “Jan Jar,” which is infused with metal undertones. Magic Number is rounded out with the elevating, energetic “Science (Free Your Mind),” and the mosh pit ready “It’s A Trap” before closing with the gentle “Endless Highway.” Brimming with saxophone, trombone, tuba and trumpet alongside electric guitar and percussion, Magic Number merges different styles into an exuberant and creative tour de force. MarchFourth will continue to tour all over the United States in support of this album through the fall and into 2017. The dark four track collection begins with the ethereal harmonies and atmospheric electric guitars of "Five Miles" before segueing into the eeriness of "London Rain." The short set is rounded out with the delicate, melancholy folk tune "He Takes My Place" before closing out with an intense, sexually charged, yet dispirited, take on "Saturday Night." Curse of Lono will be embarking on their first UK tour this Autumn with Texan roots rockers Uncle Lucius. In addition, the EP will form the soundtrack for a short film of inter-connected videos directed by Alex Walker and shot by Bart Sienkiewicz that will be released alongside the EP. The Baltimore-based rockabilly artist, who inherited his musical chops from his parents and grandmother, embraces the essence of big band rock and roll and rockabilly on his latest single, "Rockabilly Saturday Night" from his latest album, I'm 21, which was produced by Kent Wells. Playing the keys with the dazzle of Jerry Lee Lewis, and singing with a youthful swagger reminiscent of Presley, Christina combines a nostalgic feel with a dynamic freshness that will have you on your feet and feeling alright. -Tara Hailing from Austin, indie rock band March & Beauty, recently released their new EP, Summer Said. Comprised of Terri (vocals/bass) and Tim Dittmar (drums), Sean Mullens (guitar), and Paul Stautinger (multi-instrumentalist), the quartet recorded the all analog project at OHM Recording Facility with Chico Jones, and the result is a four track set that blends dreamy pop (reminiscent of The Cranberries) and indie rock quite effortlessly. Opening with the celestial “Stay” which features Dittmar’s airy vocals layered over rhythmic guitars, the set also includes the expansive, hook-filled “Spark,” and the dark, philosophical “October” before closing out with the title track which reminds us of the joys of being young at heart and finding beauty in life - even when we don’t think there is any to be found, “To see a new sky, to feel alive again/The thrill of the ride, to be that kid again/To see a new sky, to feel the sun again/To see a new sky, to feel alive.” It’s a lovely short set of tunes that you should definitely give a listen. March and Beauty will be touring across Texas this fall. For more information, visit here.
